PLEASE HELP!!! DV to M2V with CCE size problem

Hi!
I have DV file of 1 GB, and when i make m2v with CCE, the M2V is only about 150 MB. I thing the file got to be >1 GB, because when i encode 1.4 GB DivX AVI, the file is around 3.6 GB.
The other problem is, like i read on this forum that DVD player can't play dvd-r discs with that much data and that disc have to be 1/3 full.

Welcome to the board,

you're obviously doing something completely wrong. How you manage to get your DivX files to turn out bigger than your DV original is a miracle to me. You should really read a guide or two; there are very good ones at Doom9's site.

Regarding your m2v file, please post your CCE settings.

I think that i posted my problem wrong.
1. I transferred my 4 min. DV file from camera to HDD and the file is 1.04GB.
2. I changed the codec to Canopus so the file is recognized in CCE
3. CCE settings
- uncheck Audio file
- frame from 01 changed to 00
- Video settings / Mode MPEG-2 (ES, One Pass VBR)
- Q – 60, min – 2000, max – 9000
- check Video settings / DVD Video compliant
4. Encode
5. m2v file around 200MB
I think that the file should be bigger not smaller, because when I encode 2hr 1.4GB DivX regular movie (like Minority Report) the file in CCE with avg – 4500, min – 2000 and max – 8500 is 4.0 GB big, optimal for recording DVD.
So the problem I don’t understand, is how CCE from two almost same size AVI files, one DV AVI captured from DV camera and the other regular DivX movie, makes such different output sizes.
Is it normal?

Yes, this is normal, because your DivX file is compressed at a much higher rate. You compare DV to DivX by filesize, which is wrong. You need to compare by playtime.

The DivX file you mentioned is 30 times longer than your 4min DV file (although the filesize is about the same), thus is has 30 times more frames to encode. Transcoded to MPEG-2 at the same (average) bitrate the resulting file will be 30 times larger.

Use a higher quality factor. You can really afford more than 60. Or use CBR or multipass encoding and calculate a bitrate that will result in the filesize you desire.

i'm afraid you have a LOT to learn, you're really confused :)
But don't worry in time you'll figure it out, if you just read the many fine guides on doom9's site.

By the way, why do you care so much if the file size is small or big? Just watch the results and if it looks great, then be happy, don't complain! CCE is an excellent mpeg2 encoder.

by the way with CCE 2.62 I don't have to change my DV avi file to canopus just to get CCE to read it. in fact i just use the built in microsoft codec. yea its not as good supposedly but it looks fine to me

According to the dvd-books one has to write 1 GB of data on every dvd.

Nero names it "high compatibility mode" in its options, Videopack 5 and WinOnCD 6 DVD fill up to 1 GB with 0s automatically.

There are different views on this. Many forum members are not satisfied with "good" quality - they aim for the best possible quality, and they have fun tweaking around.

Would it not be a good idea to instead of buring 4mins to a DVDR why not create a mini dvd on CDR. I dont know what you intend to play your finished product on.(a lot of standalones will play mini dvd)....but cdr's are cheaper and for only 4mins maybe its a idea.
