Greenie playback with new builds test encodes

Sorry for making a thread of this but I`m
desperate :( and couldn`t find the right
solution (maybe from my desperation :)).

I have tested many xvid releases and pretty understood
related encoding problems. Until now.

Most of advices were adressed to ffdshow.
My version is Dec 11 2002 and it gives green playback
with default settings for Nic`s, Koepi`s and Umaniac`s
latest XviD releases.
All newer test encodes are greenish with twisted picture.
Playback of older encodes is fine.

Bare XviD (no ffdshow) makes no difference.
FFdshow with "use xvid" makes no difference.
VirtualDub plays no difference.


I have never installed Nimo`s pack.
I have installed ffvfw lately (possible suspect, with msvcp70
and msvcr70 dlls).

When revert to Koepi latest stable release everything works fine.
I want to test new releases! I hate green! :) Not really.

I have win98.

Now just tried newest ffdshow - there it is again: Green with
three side by side repeted picture with tiny horizontal lines.
Help me!

try using the "allways load" option in vobsub, see if it helps,
could be something related to YV12 but i'm not sure.

Don't uninstall the build. Instead try installing Nic's standalone directshow decoder (from Koepi's site). I think that will help.

Are you sure vobsub is loaded in your filter graph? I had the same problem with my roommate’s radion 7500 which couldn't do yv12 overlay (now it does with new drivers). I re-installed vobsub 2.23 and set dvobsub to always load and it fixed everything (it even made playback faster - not sure why, maybe it has better/faster color space conversion routines?) If that doesn't help try changing the order of preferred color spaces in dvobsub.

I use Vobsub with the "allways load" option ALL the time, EVEN when the movie has no subtitles at all, it fixed that problem on my machine.

Hey Koke, you are not using Vidomi in yv12 are you?
If you are go back to RGB since Vidomi yv12 is broken and do not use dev3 builds with Vidomi, there have been some changes to the way the codec does things and Vidomi is outdated.
If not then i am sorry and all i recommend is uninstall and reinstall!
Can you check your files on another setup?
I have been using dev3 builds since the start and never had so many problems, only wrong crop values in avisynth 2.5 gave me a kind of greenish/purple haze in the picture.
And remember:

Koepis HVS Lumimasking: alpha
lumimasking: beta
GMC: very alpha - known as lord of green corrupt images
Qpel: very alpha - known as lord your quantizer 2 will look like crap
CME: beta - very cool
B-frames:beta - Still tricky but better than Divx 5.0.2

Please avoid doing archival encodes with "alpha" options, they are "alpha"! Koepi`s stable version or Umaniacs stable are good to use but you can still mimic it by not using some of the options above with Dev3 builds.Please give us more info.

I'm glad to see you too, Koke (I used to read your posts on the vidomi
board when I still used that program). I'm using Virtualdub (actually Virtualdubmod) now. If you don't use it, you should try it.

Finally! Problem solved.

Yes my friend (if I may call you so). You were right
(as you often were right at Vidomi`s forum).
Dev3 releases are totally wrong in Vidomi`s
YV12 encoder output. I`ve tested RGB output with CM
and B-frames on and it was brilliant, but 30% slower.
Both Koepi`s new and ffdshow new release gave normal
output.

Did you notice Vidomi deinterlace patch on Vidomi`s
forum btw?

P.S. Blame on me for not mentioning Vidomi encoding.
I thought I better not since it seems that Vidomi is a

You really should try AVISynth if you have not. Modern miracle of programming it is.... There are millions of people's scripts to try out over at the forum.

If you think mentioning vidomi's bad, don't ever mention flask whatever you do :D

Of course you can call me that Koke, i`ve been around and i still go to Vidomi`s forum once a week but i keep in the limelight. ;-)

I have always enjoyed your post`s and also some other guy`s i`d like to see here like Matrox G450.
I really do not think Vidomi or Flask should be ignored, Vidomi came and saved many of us of seeing crappy Divx 3.11 encodes, besides Nandub there WAS an alternative for 2 pass encoding easy enough for any newbie. The story behind Vidomi`s source code is crappy but it has a big user base that should not be ignored. Right now they are the only ones developing some "improvements" on it.
The code used is stale and buggy but the concept is very good for newbies. I just hope Marty put`s everything at our disposal.
Until then i stay where the action is!

Anybody know, where the problem is between Vidomi and the dev3 api builds? I tried to look into the matter, but didn't come up with anything.
