Clear The Fog Of The Subtitles

I'm searching 3 days for creating subtitles and all I noticed is that everyone knows one or two programs, but nobody says how the hell can we work on them. :devil:

This is the problem and I hope that the answer will be usefull enough so you could help me and help other member of this forum:D

I have ripped "The Mothman Profecies" in NTSC

I've converted NTSC to PAL with Canopus Procoder 1.01.25 (the last version is 1.25)

With Subrip 1.14 took the english and french subtitles

with ScenChap 1.27 took the chapter from the movie.

With Scenarist 2.6 authored the movie with new menus and navigations.

Now I want to put Greek Subtitles in the movie.

Which programs can I use to do this. (dont tell me Subtitle Tranlator, Sub station Alpha and so many other of them)

Tell me exactly What sould I do... Make 981 pictures in bmp format and take the *.sst format from the subrip for the timecode?

Well, I also create subtitles from scratch. Here's how I do it. I use COOL EDIT to play the soundtrack (looping in an area) while I transcribe the text.

Then, I import the text file into SubStationAlpha. I convert the soundtrack to an 8-bit mono wav file, then use SSA with the option to TIME FROM WAV FILE. In the PREFERENCE section, check the PLAY WAV box and set the DURATIONS to 30 secs. I use the SET START TIMES WITH THE "ENTER" KEY.

There are buttons at the top that will start the wave file playing with your first line of text displayed. Hold down the ENTER key until you get to the timing where you want the line to be spoken, then release the ENTER key, then immediately re-press it down and wait for the next line.

Do this for the entire length of the soundtrack. If you STOP this process anywhere before you are done, you have to REMOVE TIMING OVERLAPS before you can continue.

Once the timings are completed, read the .SSA file into MaestroSBT to create the bitmaps, after setting all the options that you want.

This may not be what you were asking, but this technique works for me.

With your answer you gave me the fantastic idea. You mention about Sub Station...

I got the sub station and wrote down in some timecodes (for test) something in greek. Then I saved the *.ssa file and I found the program (Maestro SBT) you just said which lets you take the *.ssa file. It reads the timecodes and you make some adjastment about color , NTSC/PAL etc and then you chose the program : Scenarist / Maestro.

Press the generate button and the program RENDER the subs as *.bmp files !!! That it you finished !!

Check the Sub Title Workshop 106. It let you opens the sst file which you have ripped with subripper. You have the correct timecode and all you have to do is to rewrite the subs in the language you want. Save the file as ssa and continue with the way you said to me!
