NVIDIA has also developed its cooling solution, dubbed FX Flow, to dissipate heat from the GPU. Using a high speed fan and a copper radiator, FX Flow draws air in from outside the case to cool the GPU, but at the cost of a PCI slot. To be able to run stable, the GeForce FX will require an external power source.

Very nice, but if you check the features, the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro is not far from the nVIDIA GeForce FX.
Good thing is that the older GeForces will drop their prices after the NV30 hits the streets.

The exhaust is as big as the one on my CBR!!!!
They are apparently VERY noisy though, which is bad if your watching a movie.

What the hell is this on those pictures?
A graphic card or a nuclear plant? I can't really tell...
Looks to me like somebody is trying to get the last bit out of an old graphic chipset and therefore needs all kinds of cooling devices. Anyways seems to me like that cooling thing is blocking one pci slot, and i need all of them.
peace

They will be releasing modals without the fan and exhaust....lower end.
It is a totally new chip on a smaller die the the geforce 4

I'll stick with my ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 9700 Pro as I am not a big fan of 1) noise 2) loss of a PCI slot just so they can put a freakin' muffler on thier overly hot chipset!
I will pass of this.

JOHN CARMACK - Mr Doom - has passed some comments about the performance of the forthcoming GeForce FX (NV30) technology versus the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (R300) graphics technology on the Clanbase web site.
In a message there, Carmack said that the NV30 technology is slightly faster on most Doom scenes, but sometimes the R300 technology pulls ahead.
It's complicated, he said, because of the different way cards using these graphics chips run the game.
He said that NV30 runs Doom in five different modes, while the R300 runs the game in three different modes.
Using an apples-to-apples comparison makes it look as if the R300 is twice as fast, but using vendor specific paths gives the NV30 GPU a clear advantage.
He also says that taking up two slots is a disadvantage for a GeForce FX and the cooling fans are VERY LOUD (his caps).

I'll think I'll wait:)

Well, according to the info I've picked up on overclockers.ru site
Gainward plans to release two modified versions of GFX
boards with slim and silent cooling system.
First:Gainward FX PowerPack! Ultra/1000 plus Golden Sample
Core/mem 500/1000.128 megs of DDR-II, aimed with "HEAT PIPE" cooling system producing only 7db of noise level (as opposed to "FX FLOW" by NVIDIA which can go up to 60-70db) the package also includes IEEE 1394 controller and 5.1 audio card with optical and digital output. The whole package will cost around 600 bucks.
The second one is basically the same, but with lower core/mem speed 400/800>(460 bucks).

SOURCES CLOSE to Nvidia tell the us that the graphics firm has told its partners that the GeForce FX is likely to be discontinued, with the firm instead concentrating on the NV35 platform.
The sources said that the firm has made the move because of an update that its bitter rival ATI is expected to soon roll out of the door.
Nvidia could not be contacted for confirmation at press time, but earlier this week a PR representative said that he "could not comment" on the previous reports.
Insiders had told the INQ earlier this year that Nvidia was only forecasting 100,000 units of the GeForce FX to ship before the end of May.
The boards were all being manufactured by one outsourcing company to Nvidia's specifications, and the partners were expected to re-brand the GeForce FX with their own boxes and different colour fans.
We're attempting to get more on this later today. If the reports are confirmed it's an expensive business for both Nvidia and its partners. At press time it wasn't clear whether the existing GPUs will be sold. But another source told us that it will stick with the ones it already has produced and that are in production, so won't ramp that production up.
It will also wait and see the reaction from customers and press reviewers to assess the right quantity to ship. There may be only as few as 10,000 GPUs currently produced, that source added.

For those who curious how much noise this card is actually produces
Check out this (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030127/geforce_fx-06.html) page,(Sounds like 1500WT vacuum cleaner :D)

It doesn't hold a candle to the ATI Radeon series, especially for us DVD/DivX watchers.
Oh, and unless they've finally fixed the "no gamma correction" issue with the overlay, ATI will always rule.
