View Full Version : Can I create more than 1 Titleset in IFOEDIT

Guys,

Can you help me out with this one please now that I seem to have found the font of info for IFOEDIT....

I like to build a DVD with POP Videos. Sometimes 40 odd. Each video would have it's own VOB. I believe IFOEDITs limitations are 10 vobs per titleset. So ideally ...

What I'd really like to do is this ....
VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_01_2.vob
VTS_01_3.vob
VTS_01_4.vob going up to VTS_01_9.vob
Then move onto
VTS_02_1.vob
VTS_02_2.vob
VTS_02_3.vob going up to VTS_02_9.vob
And so on through
VTS_03_x , VTS_04_x, VTS_05_x

Plus of course all the IFO and BUP files etc

Until I have filled the DVD with individual VOB files each one containing only a single Pop video.

For me, the advantages are many. For instance once I've created this simple collection (albeit difficult it would seem to achieve)I can at any time in the future pull off any single VOB and make best of the best DVD's or even Best of the best of the best if you get my drift.

I found IfoEdit so incredibly easy to achieve what I wanted with upto 1 Titleset, it's just frustrating not being able to work out how to add additional titlesets.

By the way. I know I could go down the authoring route. And I could merge the vobs and get more on that way. But I'd really like, if poss to build the DVD as I've outlined above.

Sorry for the long Post.......Any suggestions/Advice/Steps please.

Thanks

Phil

Bouldip,

Hello, thanks to the DOOM Team for getting my registration cleared up so I can help you out. I have 2 solutions for you. I am currently working on the first one. I am trying to actually hack the IFOedit App to find the BYTE that writes the VOB ID Number, which we all know that is hardcoded to 1.

Since that solution wont help you at the current moment, If you are familiar with HexEditing tools, I have found a way to change the VOB ID byte threwout the VOB to any number you wish. I am looking in developing a cheasy App, that you can select the target VOB ID # you wish and it will rip threw the VOB stream and update the bytes, I currenty use a script to this automattically. This way you can create MultiPGC DVD's just using IFOedit as the authoring tool. You create all your VOB's, using IFOedit's authoring tools, then when your done run my script, and alter the internal ID bytes. Then use IFOedits, 'Creat New IFO' option to make the new IFO to run ther DVD title.

This is in the works, but I am spinning up on C++ to get it going, I currently know VB, so the learning curve is steep.

Also, I am looking into creating a DVD2AVI/vStrip Combo App, to cut the credits off a movie, without going threw the whole Win Calculator to Hex/Decimal routine... In the future....

Anyway, I will now be trolling this forum, so let me know if you want to know how to change the VOB ID's numbers....

VidHack,

I'd like to shout my compliments out to you as a job well done. I've read that you came up with this method. I just recently used it in my Signs cheat sheet. Pretty accurate. Welcome aboard!

Anyway, I'm always wanting to try new methods and I would like to inquire on your VOB IDs change. PM me.

Bouldip,

How about doing this.

According to my DVD bible, you can have up to 99 titles or episodes on a single disc. Why not make all your 40 vobs as separate titlesets? Import them into an authoring program like SpruceUp. There is a guide in Doom9 to help you. SpruceUp supports multiple titles and menu creation. I haven't done in yet, but you could have your videos play after each other by editing some post commands for title jumping using IFOedit.

Just my two cents.

Why not use VobEdit to join clips? Here's how it works. Name all the vob files sequentially, it doesn't matter what name, but the example (and I just tried it using VobEdit 0.6) uses vts_01_001.vob, vts_01_002.vob, etc.
Open the first vob with VobEdit, click on "edit" at the top, and "join clips". Vobedit will then ask for a destination filename, use something legal for DVD, like vts_01_1.vob, and you should use a different folder. The VobEdit will ask for the first vobID. After that it merges all the vob files into one, replacing vobIDs along the way. If a clip has more than one cell it will end up with more than on vobID.
After that you can use the vob produced by VobEdit as input to IfoEdit "create ifo" function. If you select "create 1 PGC only" and "create chapter for each cell" you can go to each clip using chapters.
If you select "Create a PGC for each new VobID" you can watch the clips as seperate titles.

btw: VobEdit can be used with just one input file in join clips mode to change the vobIDs.

Thanks again guys. With the info on this thread I can cap UK free-to-air digital TV and easily create widescreen DVDs (not supported by spruceup or DVD-it) with chapter points inbetween clips.

sweet!

Phew Guys ! Thanks a lot. I posted this and watched it eagerly ...nothing, take my eye off for 1 day and we have lift off. Thanks again.
VidHack - Definately YES Please, especially if you can edit IFOEdit that will be wicked. Email me anytime. Looks like from the other guys you're already well respected so you'll do for me.
MPUCoder - Thanx for your comments ...I have had exactly the same advice previously - may have been you, in a different forum. It absolutely does work great and that's certainly one way to build up the pop videos on the dvd but still doesn't quite let me keep them all individually with a series of Titlesets and individual vobs. The only reason I actually need more than one titleset (you probably know anyway) is the 10 limit for each titleset, otherwise there'd be no issue with IfoEdit.
When you reference PGC in IfoEdit, I understand it to stand for Programme Chain but don't really understand what that is ? Although your instructions are crystal clear.
2Cool - Interesting idea - could elaborate a little please. ?

You can equate a PGC to a title. So if each clip got a seperate PGC, you would have 40 titles, all in one title set.

Bouldip,

If you have NTFS, you can piggy-back on mpucoder's method of joining your clips and using that single file for SpruceUp. I still have Fat32 which restricts me to 4GB max file. If you did have Fat32, you can still import but in separate files.

As krusada mention earlier, SpruceUp does not support widescreen but it's a simple edit to change it to widescreen using IFOedit.

SpruceUp is what I use but I believe you can use others like Ulead DVd Workshop. I already have done a 40 chapter movie file.

My first reply's method isn't for chaptering as all your movies would be separate. With joining the clips, you can now set chapters.

mpucoder's method works but IFOedit doesn't do menus. More details later if you want.

MPUCODER - Aaahh - wheels starting to turn here, he says as he's quickly investigating the Ifoedit screens.
- So if I click on create a PGC for each new vob id. They're all different (I think) anyway. It doesn't matter how many vobs I have, the one titleset will do (up to the squashed up, or rather full up this time 10 vobs), I'll be able to jump from one pop vid to the next, albeit linearly - as opposed to using menu screens - not too concerned about that for the mo. I'll not have to go through the authoring pain, not have to put up with the time some progs like to take whilst re-rendering/re-coding etc.
Simply pile in the vobs, click as above, make the Ifo's and voila !! - Gotta try that right now !!!See you soon.
2Cool - Forgive me, I'll get back to you very quickly.

MPUCODER ---Bugger ! I put 12 vobs into a folder and did as you outlined above, IFO edit went through all the actions, - scanned all 12 and created the ifo's etc.
Played it back in PowerDVD and it did indeed work brilliantly, next, next, next etc all worked fine then got to the 9th chapter 10th vob and of course it all stopped.
I obviously forget the first step in your first post, got to join the vobs together first using Vobedit.!!
No worries, I can do that, THEN, use the above method and I'm almost 100% confident that it'll work.
Question ...In Vobedit, I think I can name say 40 vobs (actually I'll only use 12 in my test, it's quicker and it'll prove the process) but say name 40 vobs VTS_01_001 up to VTS_01_040 and will Vobedit go through them all and make probably 5 or 6 appropriately named vobs of equal(ish) size ? Ready for my next step ?
Tell you what, I'm so excited off to go and try now. Anything else I might need to know ? - See you all soon.

MPUCODER ? - In the time since my last post about 20 mins ago I've done the following :
I renamed all 12 individual pop video vobs to VTS_01_001 up to 12
Used Vobedit 0.6, opened up the 1st one and clicked add vobs

The process ran through and I ended up with 2 1.0g vob files and a 3rd one quite small - Wicked !

Then used IfoEdit, said create IFO's, selected create a Pgc for each new vob ID and create chapter for each cell and it ran.

But when I open video_ts in the player - it only plays the first song and doesn't indicate in the timer display that it has anything else to play. I went in and clicked get vts sectors - it did it's thing but made no difference.

If I open the vob file and play them directly all the video's are in there and play correctly but obviously only until the vob finishes. I need video_ts and the other ifo's to direct the action.

What have I done wrong ? Obviously missed something here ?

Thanks in advance

Phil

If you use a PGC for each VobID you end up with many titles. You can't skip from title to title with "next" and "prev", instead you have to use the title menu in your player (if it has one)
But if what you want is to use "next" and "prev" then select "Create 1 PGC" and "Create chapter for each cell"

MPUCODER : - You've just become my hero. Works a treat. Don't know how many times to say thanks, so one will have to do.Thanks.

I've been trying to do this for months and as I'm sure you and everyone else has suffered with this DVD editing lark it's sometimes painful and slow and many sore eyes in the morning for stopping up far toooooo long.

So now only have the following outstanding thoughts.
Would STILL like to be able to do as my 1st post above with IFO edit and keep all the vob's seperate.

VIDHACK - Can you elaborate a little for me, not sure what you mean when you say change the vob id no. Why would I want to do that ? (I'm quite sure, by the way b4 you give me the answer I will do) The bit about being able to remove the credits, probably from the last half of the last vob is intriguing too. Presumably thereby allowing you to on occasion, get a film on one 4.7(4.3)GB disk whereas you would previously had to use two or do some sort of re-coding.

Do you have a useful link/guide etc to point me/us to ?

MPUCoder - Could I just continue to explore my Pop Video needs with you just a tad more (slightly away from IFOEdit in terms of Titleset but all part of the same job)

Having had the success above I tried the following. I have a Phillips 880 - recorded off air 5 pop vids. Didn't close the +RW DVD but my Pioneer 105 can read the files. Used smartripper to extract form the various vob files two pop videos that were as it happens spread across 3 or 4 vobs.

Then went into VobEdit to carry out the joining excercise. By the way - do you know what the difference is between Join clips and Join Cellvob files ?

The joining worked, went into IFOEdit and selected create IFO's I got the error message ....."VOBFILE is invalid! It doesn't start with a Nav-Pack. Aborting operation to avoid a crash"

Is this something I have done ? Or is it because I've jumped the gun with the Phillips DVD 880 and not let it close off (or complete) the vobs or IFO's properly ?

About VOB ID Changing:

The reason for VOB ID changing is for MultiPGC DVD's. Expecially, multi-episode titles. This solution is an alternative to doing a total reauthor. Let me explain. Band of Brothers, has 2 PGC's. One episode per PGC, in other words 2 episodes per disk. I wanted to use the original menu, but not the whole thing. The original menu was 500 Mb, I stripped it down to VOB ID 1 and VOB ID 2, now just 80Mb. Ther were 3 buttons on the main MOVING Menu. Button 1=Episode1 Button 2=Episode 2 Button 3=Stupid link to Warner Bros Website.

To kill Button 3, I opened up a hex editor and removed all traces of 71 01 00 05 00 03 00 0d, replaced it with 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 , NOP. This killed the action completely in the moving menu.

So, you ask, what does this have to do with VOB ID changing?? Here is the answer, the original menu plays Button 1=VOB ID 2 <Title1> Button 2= VOB ID 1<Title2> . If I reAuthored the project in Scenarist then it can assign a new VOB ID to Title, but using any other authoring software will yield a VOB id of 1. A single PGC in other words, So my goal was to Re-Encode the Episodes, use IFOedit/DVDmaestro to mux the file, then Just switch the VOB ID so the ORIGINAL menu can play the Title Set. Make Sense???? Hope so.

How to do it.

Hope you know how to use a HEX editor.

THanks to MPUcoders awsum website, the DVD packet info is there.

1. Start Hex Editor
2. Load in VOB to change VOB ID
3. Use the built-in "FIND" menu , 00 00 01 bf 03 fa 01 This is the Private Stream 2 Start Packet.
4. Use the "GOTO" +32 bytes
5. Press your "Right Arrow" Key Once, you will now be on the VOB ID Byte.
6. Change the value to whatever ID you want
7. Press the FIND Next menu
8. GO TO step 4 (Do this for the ENTIRE VOB) There could be hundreds of these packet per VOB, thats why I have script that runs these steps automattically.

Many HEX editors support script input to automate these steps, expecially game hacking packet HEX writers....

Anyway, hope all this makes some kind of sense to you, If not lets chat..

-about credit cutting... Head over to VCDhelp's forum on DVD2DVDr, search for "Frame accurate credit cutting" I did a complete How-to.

Also Search for NAVIGATIONAL Packs over there, I did a complete solution for NO NAV PACK problems, do this right now though, open up the troublesome video in VOBedit, look to the LEFT side of the screen, if the first PACK at 0000 isnt a NAVIGATIONAL PACK, theres the problem, you can slice the VOB down using vStrip to a NAV Pack, then the VOB will start with a NAV Pack....Good Luck...

Hey Vidhack,

Thanks for your time and effort in posting your response. A little advanced for me at the minute in all honesty. All very interesting though and I will save your comments for future re-reading. I'll also follow your links.
Not being into programming or hex editing particularly I started to lose the plot a tad.MCSE & Gadget freak yep, not a programmer though so it takes a little longer to reach the grey cells.
Have you got round to putting a website up yet ? Same goes for MPUCoder ? Fancied dancing your fingers across the plastic keys for website development ?

maybe you guys can help me.
I did the, back to the future 3 dvd set and band of brothers (movie only) by riping down the first and last chapters by size with smartripper, and cutting out all credits then merging eveything together, I end up with different movies accrossed the dvd's. everything worked prerfect until the 6th time, the third disk for band or brothers, it has the second half(very little) of part 4,part 5,and the first half(most) of part 6, some how when I merged everything I lst the cells or the ID's or something, because when I created the IFO, I lost all chapter markers, now it's one chapter, one cell, and the settings in IFOEdit are correct.
Any Ideas what I did to screw it up?

Intresting note, I had a movie I made,That I couldn't correct the vob pointers in IFOEDIT, and the disk was messed up,wouldn't fast foward with out crashing, you know the deal. So I burned it on a dvdrw and ripped it again,. This time ifoedit could correct the pointers and the movie played perfect.strange
