View Full Version : Lame Encoding times and reporting Times

I had recently ripped a DVD that was quite long, about 225 minutes and some seconds. When loading the mp3 into Lame, the Command nased version gave me an estimated time of 2 hours and 20 some minutes to encode, 27 minutes later, it says it's done...even though it still says it should take 2 hours and 20 some minutes to complete. The setting I used was a regular 128 kbps ABR file "-h --abr 128". In order to test if the length was in fact correct, I just used a regular DivX file and appended the file onto itself until I had an appropriate lengthed file, then put the VBR mp3 file into it. The audio seemed to end at the appropriate time.

There are two questions that are coming out of this post. First, since Winamp seems to have a bit of trouble reading VBR mp3s, and the way I checked the mp3's length was a bit unorthodox, and a bit time consuming, is there an easier way to check an mp3's length? Second is Lame's time estimation broken? Why is it saying it'll take longer than it actually does to encode the wav?
