does resizing rises compressibility?

Hi everyone. I semetimes resize moves (that are already encoded) to be able to put them on less number of cd's or other reasons. I use 2-pass Xvid (or divx) encoding. But my question is: will resizing the source image rise overall "visuability" in some hard cases? Like putting 2+ hours to 1 cd? And if yes, Which resize method to use?
Bicubic? biliear? or others? Thanks In Advance.

I'm not sure what you mean by "visuability" but here is a quick rundown: SimpleResize is fast but not good quality. For the other ones, this is the order:

Bilinear
Soft Bicubic
Neutral Bicubic
Sharp Bicubic / Lanczos (approximately the same I believe)

From top to bottom, the top is the most compressible but the softest. The bottom ones are sharper, but harder to compress. I think the general consensus is not to go lower than Soft Bicubic for most movies. Neutral is considered a good trade-off of sharpness and compressibility. Sharp i think causes some "ringing" so those who are looking for a sharp picture often choose Lanczos. Also I think I've read someone (Acaila maybe?) saying that you should only try Lanczos if Sharp Bicubic looks very excellent. Basically, in my opinion, try to use Neutral with a decent comp. check in most cases, if it's tough compression, try soft, if you want a super sharp picture and have good compressibility then use Lanczos. These are the only ones I know of. Hope this helps. If you need more info, just search... everything I have said here i learned in these forums.
