no no no it works :D
OK, to be more precise :
UNFILTER.DLL 2003-01-16 77824 bytes
AviSynth from 2003-01-28
I have made a collection of plugins. It's a little premature to announce it but Unfilter is there too, I tested it just this moment.

yes, i also have this version of unfilter. well i have just tested it too, and i still get the message: no 2.5 plugin
probabely the problem is the avisynth version. although, all the versions since jan 21 are said to no longer support the old interface.

now it's getting spooky.
I just tested it with
avisynth_270203.exe
AviSynth_250.exe
avisynth_060303.exe
and Unfilter.DLL has (hex editor) the ...init2 .

GOTCHA!
this is .... grmblfx!!!
i don't know whose fault it is winrar, windows or mine. i just deleted the unfilter.dll in the avs directory and then extracted the dll from the archive into it. before i had just extracted it into the directory selecting overwrite when prompted by winrar. it seems the file was not overwritten at all! how can that be?

hehe, you are using windows, so don't ask such questions too often :p
(in earnest: maybe the file was read-only? copied from CD or such?)

If it was read only, you would have been prompted when you tried to delete it, but that's the most likely.
