BS Player crashes with ogm with subtitles

I noticed this problem after I installed the latest version of BS player (v0.86), but I'm not sure if this is the cause. Anyway, I have lots of ogm movies, most with 2, 3 or 4 muxed subtitles, and the playback was always perfect on my WinXP. Now I can still open an ogm, but few seconds after I click play, bs player crashes and I get these messages (see attachment). This happens only with ogms that have muxed subtitles, no matter the video (divx5pro, xvid) nor audio (vorbis, mp3) codec. Ogms without muxed subs (eg. subs in separate file(s)) play fine.

Windows media player stil plays fine.
I uninstalled bs player and installed previous version, reinstalled ogg DS filter, subtitDS 1.400, tried previous versions of subtitDS filter, but nothing solved the problem

It's a known problem ( I would have given you the link to the thread in the bsplayer's forum, but they are currently down ), there is nothing you can do about it except to wait for the next release. Go back to 0.85.492 or use Zoom Player meanwhile

I had big troubles with subtitDS 1.400,too.
Sometimes the subtitDS 1.400 worked but 10 minutes later they didn't!
Blight(Zoomplayer author) also recommend to use the latest DirectVobSub (http://vobsub.edensrising.com/vobsub.php?PHPSESSID=523fd89bcbffc6320114ea234ff44ef2) to watch Ogg files(OGM) with subtiles.You will see it works great!

So uninstall the subtitDS 1.400 and install DirectVobSub,configure it under "DirectVobSub Configure"-->"General" -->"Loading"-->Always load"

If you use the BSPLayer configure in the preferences: Subtiles --> and deactivate the "Use subtitle mixer for subtitles in Ogg files"

Well,here (http://forum.bsplayer.org/viewtopic.php?t=800&sid=c3ff5ac755b5fa4153e6ba8ecc41c0ec) is the link and BST, the author is already on the hunt.
To summarize it here: So far it seems like the recent tag support implementation for Subrip files in internal subtitle parser has failed. OGM files with internal SRT subs not containing any style tags should do fine.

Strange that you had crashes again when switching back to version x.492. In that version tags have simply not been translated, but only for internal SRT subs (so they showed up as written), but movies played fine!

Yeah, I find that strange, too. I didn't try downgrading to even earlier version, because I remember I had some problems with "newer" formats like ogm, muxed subs, etc and *had* to upgrade bsplayer.

Now I found out that if I disable subs in bsplayer by default, The movie plays fine untill I switch to fullscreen, then my computer restarts due to a heavy failure or something. I guess I'll just have to manage without my favourite player for a while.

hi!

i'm haveing big trouble with ogm and subs.
the subs are in .idx/.sub format. video is xvid, sound vorbis. inside the ogm there are no subs. i've tried everything above and also read the thread at bsplayer forum. nothing helped me. the ogm plays fine without the subs but as soon as i copy the sub files into the directory (where the .ogm is) bsplayer crashes at start ... "access violation at address ... in "bplay.exe" ...

can some1 confirm this? did i do something wrong with muxing the .ogm file (i used oggmux)?

I got around this problem and maintain full functionally by doing the following:

1) In BSPlayer Preferences | Subtitles, I selected "Don't Show subtitles"

2) I uninstall subtitDS.

3) I uninstalled Morgan Media Switcher. If file mmswitch.ax exist in \WinNT\System32 then is installed. There was no uninstall programs, so I had to manually uninstall. I deleted the mmswitch.ax file, and removed four registry entries that referenced mmswitch.ax.

4) I install DirectVobSub (by installing VobSub). On DirectVobSub Properties | General in pull down "Loading", I selected "Always Load".

5) In ffdshow Properties, I deselected "subtitles".

Now I can consistently view OGMs with Muxed subtitles with either WMP or BSPlayer. I prefer to use BSPlayer and have OGM associated with this player.

With BSPlayer, subtitles are enabled and the first language is automatically selected as soon as the player starts up. I really like this.

With WMP, subtitles are available but not enabled on startup. I have to select the language, stop the player then restart it.

I can also select the language (audio stream) for both BSPlayer and WMP. Morgan Media Switcher is not needed in my configuration.
