Sides are cut on JVC D-series 27" and Pioneer DV-C505

I have a Pioneer DV-C505 5 DVD player
and when I play SVCD's (haven't tried DVD's) on it, that look right on the computer,

but they are kind of cropped. Say this is what the picture looks like on my computer

When I play it on the DVD player
it will look like

(bcdef)

Just a tiny bit off the sides is taken off, say when there is writing from edge to edge of the screen, half of the first and last letters will get cut off.

Now I have the DVD player set in 4:3 letter box mode (NOT pan and scan), and definitely not 16:9 as my tv is a 4:3.

Does anyone know how I can fix it? It's ok if I can't because I can't do anything about it.

The video outs, I have a Composite out, a yb, y(a)?, and a S-video
I currently use the yellow composite out.

Quality wise, I'm colourblind so whatever output I use is ok and my tv supports them all.

TVs have overscan, meaning the projected image is actually bigger than the screen, so some gets chopped off. It's true for broadcast TV, DVD, VHS, etc. I know there is some good reading on it around here somewhere, maybe try to search for "TV overscan" on this forum, as well as on Google.com. Overscan can be corrected, but you usually have to access your TV's service menu and adjust quite a few things (not worth it actually, unless you're very anal about your TV).

there are service menus on most tvs wich cannot be accessed by the normal end user.
does anybody know more about it ? im very interested in this. i really hate to loose information :D
