View Full Version : DTS-WAV -> DTS with BeSplit : How?

I have read the following in the FAQ:
24b) I have encoded a 5.1 DTS WAV with SurCode DTS-CD. how do i playback it on my pc ?
no known players supports DTS-WAVs, so the only thing you could do is first extracting the 5.1DTS stream from the DTS-WAV using BeSplit and then playbacking it in any player that capable of playing dts. (powerdvd, for instance)
Now I am asking myself, how to do that with BeSplit, as it has no type-switch for DTS-WAVs...
Can someone explain please, how to convert a DTS-WAV into a plain DTS-stream with BeSplit or any other tool?

-type dtswav :D

Okay, will try it...
I guess, the following command line should do it then?
BeSplit -core( -input live.wav -output e:\track01.dts -type dtswav -fix )
UPDATE
Well, it worked that way...:D Thanx!
Would you mind taking the time to explain, why the raw DTS-files I get are substantially smaller than my DTS-WAVs?

As I never played with DD-WAVs before (got right into it with DTS :D) I'd be happy with a bit more detail...
BTW: Here's is a log...seems fine:

Would be nice to see BeSliced support DTS-type...or maybe even WBIAS...
Is there also a type dts for use with -split option?
or can this even be done in one step (from one DTS-wav to several dts-files) with -type dtswav?

BTW: Here's is a log...seems fine:yeap, if the length of those tracks are 1:59 & 58mins, it worked fine.
btw, where did you get those files from ?
as for GUIs update,
i know, i know..

Thanx for your explanation...
about where I got the files from...let's say I downloaded them... :D For evaluation purposes...or was it education? :D

Nice to hear that...the -split does only accept seconds or is it possible to do ms or something like that?
May I also ask how I could go the opposite way (making a dts-wav out of a dts-file)?

i thought of offering this kinda of feature in BeSplit, but i don't think there would be much interest in this.

So I can use -split (0 45.123) for example being 45 s 123 ms?
If it's not too much work, why not integrate the dts-wav feature... ? Might be nice, because vobrator accepts only vob-input and no raw dts-files...

yes, your commandline would work, but you must put spaces before and after brackets.

Well, I don't remember, if it was you telling me that...forgive me! ;)
And guess what? I am done questioning for now...thanx for answering...!

I tried to split a dts file (made with dvd2avi 1.77.3) with besplit v0.82. Like this:
Besplit -core( -input gladiator.dts -prefix e:\track -type dts -a ) -split( 0 30 60 )
But dtssource.ax/iviaudio.ax (see Doom9's download page) couldn't play the splitted dts tracks. Forgot the log, I will post the log tomorrow if needed. (Of course the original dts track plays fine.)

1. use BeSplit v0.9bX
2. post logfile :D

OK ... I'll add my asking for help to this thread, since I feel it belongs here.
I want to convert a series of dts to dtswav.
Here is my logfile / command-line:
BeSplit v0.9b4 by DSPguru.
--------------------------
Logging start : 07/06/03 , 01:59:55.
besplit.exe -core ( -logfile i:\besplit.log -input 04.dts -output 04.wav -type dtswav )
[00:00:00:000] +------- BeSplit -----
[00:00:00:000] | Input : 04.dts
[00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 48.0KHz
[00:00:00:000] | Channels Count: 5.1, Bitrate: 1536kbps
[00:00:00:000] | Output : 04.wav
[00:00:00:000] +---------------------
[00:00:00:000] | Writing 04.wav
[00:00:00:000] +---------------------
[00:00:00:000] Operation Completed !
[00:00:09:000] <-- Process Duration
Logging ends : 07/06/03 , 02:00:04.
My problem: the outputfile 04.wav is 0-bit length (no data in it). I tried also the -fix, as well as several *.dts from various sources.
I also tried Hypercube's dts2wav.exe, but it only works for 44.1 kHz.
Would greatly appreciate any suggetsions.
Kind regards,
Andreas

your commandline will convert dtswav into dts, while you're interested in the opposite process..

DSPguru: Thanks for answering. I think I found 2 solutions for this, and will quickly summarise for all:
Solution 1:
Derived from DTS with BeSplit : How? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42608&perpage=14&pagenumber=2) where it says: May I also ask how I could go the opposite way (making a dts-wav out of a dts-file)? Currently, it is only possible with VobRator.
I just muxed the *.dts with a still image (or m2v), this is possible for example in Scenarist. The resulting VOB is then de-muxed with Vobrator as follows: demux the dts, with the option save as PCM DTS . This creates a valid dtswav (48 kHz).
Solution 2:
Using GraphEdit as follows:
DTSSource -> InterVideo Audio Decoder -> WAV Dest -> File Writer
Important: IV Audio Decoder has to be set with Enable S/PDIF output , or else it does not work.
I'm not sure that this creates a 100%-compliant dtswav, but it works for my purpose, i.e. this can be used in DVD-Authoring SW that does not have native dts-authoring capabilities. For example, Sonic DVD Architect recognises the dtswav as 'Stereo wav', but playing it on the DVD-player (with optical feeding into the Amp) will correctly decode as DTS.
Note:
If one has 6 mono wav's, one can of course encode directly into 48kHz dtswav with SurCode DVD DTS (just select DTS WAV for destination).
Please let us know if you have suggestions or different solution.

Andreas

i guess i can add a feature to BeSplit for padding DTS with wave framework.

That would be nice.
Most DVD authoring SW can't handle *.dts, but it can be tricked with *.dtswav (which makes them think it's stereo PCM). Authored DVD plays fine, and the Amp recognises the 'PCM' (aka dtswav) as DTS.
Kind regards,
Andreas
