I'm trying to get subtitles working with AutoRV9 with no success. I'm using SubRip 1.11 and following Doom's guide:

I save the subtitles as a subrip file. I set up AutoRV9 and encode the movie. I then open the .smil file. The movie plays with borders on top and bottom but no subtitles.

Any advice?

You have to make RealText (.rt) subs, not SAMI subs.

Do a search on the word subtitles and for posts by me 31 Flavas (do both in the same search). I've done a lot of work with RT subs, so feel free to ask me questions.

I am making RealText subs. I create the .srm file with subrip and then load the .srm file into AutoRV9. AutoRV9 creates the movie.rmvb, movie_Subtitle.rt and movie_Subtitle.smil. The movie works fine. I can play the .rt and .smil file but there are no subtitles. The .rt file is a black border with no words. The .smil file is the movie with black borders and no words.

@31 Flavas. How do you make your subs? Do you use AutoRV9 to create the .rt and .smil files?

Have you read Doom's subrip guide? Is there something that I need to do that the guide doesn't mention?

Is there a plugin that I need for RealOne to play subtitles?

When I was making subs originally, they worked. When I used sub studio, they didn't. I found out that there was a line inserted the begining of the .rt file that RealPlayer didn't like. By removing the <-- made by RA lite substudio (or some such text) --> line RealPlayer no longer barffed. I'm guessing this might be your problem. See if that works. If it doesn't, i'll probably need to look at the code AutoRV9 produced for the subs and smil file.

Oh and the boarders and stuff can be changed by tweaking the .smil file. We'll worry about this, though, after we get the subs working.

Thanks for your advice 31 Flavas. I looked at the .rt file and didn't see any such line. I don't know what program AutoRV9 uses to make the subs but I'm assuming it works for other people. I've never made subs before so maybe I'm just making a stupid newbe mistake.

Your time codes look very strange ; they are all outside the 3 minute range of the clip length, and they are not progressing normally. I don't know what this could be caused by. Perhaps the author of AutoRV9 can help.

Here's one example that works fine:

Ahh, a first timer to subs! Well, i'll get your code straightened out.

There are lots of things wrong with the subs though. The timing of the subs is off. That is unless the first sub isn't supposed to appear for 1 hour and 50 mins (and then be displayed for 34 min straight). So either SubRip didn't do a proper rip or AutoRV9 messed them up. Also, in the <window> tag the "duration" bit tells RealPlayer to stop displaying subitles after 3 min 8 seconds. That means no subtitles will be displayed after that time, period.

Would you attach (don't quote) the file that SubRip generated?

The clip is only 3:08 long. It is the second chapter to Dogma. I figured I should try doing one chapter with subs before I try a whole movie.

I ripped the subs and encoded them with AutoRV9 three different times just to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Maybe I did.

My .srt file is attached. I had to change it's extension to .txt so I could attach it. You'll need to change it back.

hi,

in fact the .srt file have not a correct format, it use for the return the acsii code 10 instead of 13 & 10, it for that if u open the file in the notepad all the strings are in big one. to solve this problem open your file with wordpad and re-save it , this will replace all the char 10 by a 13 10 to a correct return on the next line. now autodub can open this file.

PS: think to delete the last line in the subtile file it a char 0. probably a bug in the subripper tool.

Hi Dark-Cracker, if I understand you correctly I need to open the .srt file with wordpad and resave the file. I don't need to change anything else.

I tried this and the subtitles still don't work. The .srt file looks fine but after AutoRV9 the time codes in the .rt file are wrong.

Any ideas?

no idear try to redo your .srt file with another version of subripper and use subtitle workshop to split the subtitle after the time of the first chapter (because u make a test on the second chapter).

Hi all, I tried encoding another chapter from a different DVD and got the same results. The time codes look fine before AutoRV9 and wrong after.

Dark-Cracker are there any settings in AutoRV9 that I should check?
If I can't get AutoRV9 to work what other program would you recommend for RV9 subtitles?

I just tired AutoRV9 1.2 and also got messed up subs. The times are all over the place in the .rt, but correct in the .srt

Also even though AutoRV9 did the ac3 to .wav conversion it didn't include the audio with the video or even make a seperate .rm audio file....

Since the subs problem seems like it is a problem with AutoRV9 I don't need the .srt.

What I use to make my .rt subs is a program called Subtitle Studio 2. The download link is at the very bottom of the page. http://www.radlight.net/download.htm

Load the .srt file into sub studio and convert (save to) RealTime format.

After that you have to do the little editing trick I talked about above or else RealPlayer will barf and tell you it can't play them.

Can I always add these first few lines but change the windows duration to the new video length and the width to the width of the new video?

I also had to add the last few lines that AutoRV9 .rt file had.

Dark-Cracker, I thought that maybe the problem AutoRV9 had creating the .rt file was caused by the start time of the subtitles being after the video clip had ended. ie the first line of subtitles started at 8:01 but the video clip was only 4 minutes long. So I tried to encode the first chapter of a movie and got the same screwed up time codes.

Just a little info for your trouble shooting.

I also had to add the last few lines that AutoRV9 .rt file had.Thoes last lines are only "technically" need. RealPlayer won't barf if you forget them.

Of course, though, if you're going to color individual lines of text (for when two people are talking at the same time) don't forget tag or the color won't change back!

AutoRV9 makes nicely rt- and smil-files but does anybody know is it possible to show rt-subtitles in RealOnePlayer in anti-aliasing format?

normaly in 1 stream the video and audio are in the same file , in 2 stream it was separately and a .smil file is nedeed for launch video + audio.

there is no auther software for rv9 & subtitle, use a manual version or producer gui.(perhaps rv9gui support this feature, not sure.)
