Can't capture with Vdub or AVI_IO

I have one of the new Xcapture board which has the same new BT chip as the MSI TV@nywhere and I can see an image in both Vdub and AVI_IO, but it won't capture.
Vdub keeps saying frame size not supported and AVI_IO will look like it's capturing for a second and then say capture end even though I didn't do anything. The card is suppose to be able to capture up to 720x576 without a problem.

I am trying to capture 720x480 from a laserdisc source.

I have a feeling it's that the chipset is not supported yet, but why would the preview window work fine?

According to the thread at Avsforum the new unreleased alpha of Dscaler supports this card, but I can't find it anywhere(All I can find is 4.01 Alpha and the new one is 4.13 Alpha or something). Plus I don't think Dscaler is truly meant as a capture software.

Has anyone with this card or chipset been able to capture and with what? Can you do 720 x 480?

What else should I try?

I have read just about every FAQ, the homepages and direct forums for the three mentioned software already and I haven't come across much help yet.

Any tips or pointers would sure be appreciated.

What if you turn preview off and then try to capture?

I believe CX2388x will only capture a max res of 352x240 with the VFW wrapper. (Which is used in VDub, avi_io, etc)

You are going to have to use WDM capture apps with this chipset in order to get full 720x480. IMHO, iuVCR works best but it's not freeware. VirtualVCR is freeware and also does approx. the same thing.

Great thanks. I downloaded a demo copy of IuVCR and I can now capture, but have some problems. It's a little jerky even though no frames have been dropped and the interlacing is very bad.
It's an NTSC source. I have some research to do now.
I will be trying the other software you pointed me to and I also posted in the Avs Forum and somebody there suggested a couple of others to try.
It's really just a toy, but I would sure love to convert some of my laserdiscs to DVD if I can.
