I think i heard there was a new firmware update (1.4) for the Pioneer 104. Currently i have 1.32 and have no problems burning Verbatim dvd-r. Is there any real need to upgrade to 1.4? Like i said i use verbatim dvd-r 2x and plan to buy some ritek dvd-rs. I also read that firmware 1.4 has better writing ability, any truth to that?

Hello all. I recently had to replace my A03 (under warantee) as it wouldn't read any disks at all. I had burned well before it went though. They replaced mine with a 104. I went to the Pioneer site and read the firmware upgrade notice and it said basicaly that the original firmware will eventually fry your Pioneer DVD-R/RW if you try to burn at the top speed of the unit. They have firmware upgrades available (FREE) at there site and you can get a CD (FREE) with the firmwares on it. I received mine yesterday.

I suggest you read there site to verify as I told my vendor (Comp USA) as they have had to replace a few of them lately. The site also recommends that the DVD-R/RW NOT be on the top of your system as they will get the most heat there.

Just a recommendation to check out your burners latest info no matter who's it is.

Have a GREAT Day, Joe :scared:
