View Full Version : Please help understand besweet error 59

8th January 2003, 18:30
Warning in advance, this post is REALLY long, but I tried to give all the information I possible could:

Hello Forum,
I am trying to convert a divx to svcd following the guide from nicky's guides. Besides really slow performance on the audio for some reason, I get this error "Error 59: Failed to sync to payload's start position : "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Movie\Extracted_audio_1.mpa"

The .MPA file in the default folder is only 1kb, and the .mp2 is zero KB. Could someone perhaps explain what this error means, and at what point in the conversion something is going wrong?

I am running an abit kt266a m/b with an AMD 1600, and 512 megs ddr. Game Theater XP sound card. No swap file, swap file resides in memory instead. Plenty of hard drive space, and HD speed.

Here is the information virtual dub gives me about the .avi file
640x352 23.976fps, divx 4, low motion codec, 48,000HZ, 2 channel stereo mp3 codec.

And here is the dvd2svcd log file,

As you can see, the point where the video encoding ended, and the video pull down started is like 11 hours later. I had left, and when I got back to the pc, there was a message I didn't understand, but I hit ok and it continued. I don't THINK the problem was during the video encoding, it appears to be an audio problem.

Next I will post the encoded audio log, where I think the problem is taking place, as this is where it appeared to stop.

Now I know I didn't have to convert the audio to 44Khz, but since I have put so much time into this at this point I would like to finish with my current project, if possible. Whenever I try and recover (under the misc tab) at the muxing and cutting point, I get error 59.

I think this will probably be enough info to help, but I will post the dvd2svcd.ini as stated in the mandatory read.

Thank you very very much in advance.

well it seems there is definitely something wrong with your audio...extraction takes 0 seconds and the file is around 1 mb...what kind of mp3 is it? is it vbr mp3 by any chance?

My suggestion would be to extract the audio with virtual dub to a wav file, and then remux your wav audio with your video and try re-doing the project...also, i didn't check, but i would ONLY downsample to 44.1khz with besweet or dvd2svcd,not with any other program..not sure if you did or not.

1st of all, let me thank you for your reply.
The guide that I am following is here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/111846.php

From reading this, "If you get message that says "VBR audio stream detected" don't worry it'll be fixed when we split the movie a bit later on."
I got the impression that my avi wasn't a vbr stream, because I didn't see this message. However, I have since attempted to convert this file to svcd in the more conventional manner of using Tmpg and splitting the pieces myself. This, I am more familiar with. I wound up with video, and no audio at all, so you are quite right, something is def wrong with the audio, and it is apparently variable bit rate (I really don't remember at this point and time)

So, I am currently following your suggestion, and I have a feeling that this will solve my problems.

I will keep you all updated, and thank you for your help.

And Viola! A few more various errors, but nothing I wasn't able to solve with the faq's (needed the crc patch) and after 4 or 5 tries, I have a perfect SVCD!

Thanks so much for the help.

Since I am done this isn't vital, but I was having some concerns during the mpeg2dec.dll phase. Can anyone please tell me what dvd2svcd is doing during this phase?

mpeg2dec.dll is a file that is used to frameserve (apply filters and such to mpeg2 files)... there are a couple of these files out now but the main one is mpeg2dec.dll. the other ones are mpeg2dec2.dll and i think there is even mpeg2dec3.dll too.
