shaky picture on DVD extras

what makes me wonder is

that on almost any DVD extra i encode, i have an "shaky" picture
on my final DVD

the movie itself is always fine, even when i have lower bitrate
on movie then on extras

so my question is

could it be that most extras are aspect 4:3
-- i changed settings in CCE to DAR 4:3

is there a special way to encode them ?

If you have a "shaky" picture on TV, it might be because you use a still out of a movie that is interlaced, so the frame is interlaced and the picture will appera shaky on the tv screen.

You can open the vob files of the material you like to encode with the bitrate viewer. It's shareware --> check the Doom9 Download Section

By the way: my experience is, that the information in BR Viewer is not always correct. Sometimes it shows Interlaced, although it's progressive. You'll have the same problem with DVD2AVI, because it also doesn't recognise always the correct frame type.

Hello everyone,

maybe stupid question, but i´m still newbie to interlaced sources :o. What are the right setting in CCE for interlaced movies??? I followed Doom9´s guide but the results are still shaky in TV. Here are values from Bitrate viewer:

Num. of picture read: 36975
Stream type: MPEG-2 MP@ML VBR
Resolution: 720*576
Aspect ratio: 4:3 Generic
Framerate: 25.00
Nom. bitrate: 8500000 Bit/Sec
VBV buffer size: 112
Constrained param. flag: No
Chroma format: 4:2:0
DCT precision: 9
Pic. structure: Frame
Field topfirst: Yes
DCT type: Field
Quantscale: Nonlinear
Scan type: ZigZag
Frame type: Interlaced


Picture structure is 100% interlaced (whatever Bitrate viewer says).
So - i didn´t check progressive frames and check Zigzag scanning order and Upper field first.

What else can I do for better result???

cause CCE handles the field settings 'differently', if its shaky after encoding, then you need to change the TFF flag in the m2v stream.

I didn´t try it. Instead of that I re-encoded the video again. To find out, if my source was tff or bff I looked in *.d2v file (if there are only 2s a 3s, then it is tff source, if there are 0s and 1s, then it is bff source). Then I set these settings:

synthesis with interlaced video for CCE:
deactivate 'progressive frames' (in any case)
deactivate 'zigzag scanning order' (in any case)
deactivate 'upper field first' -for tff-source
activate 'upper field first' -for bff-source

If you want to change flag in *.m2v source you probably have to use pulldown with these parameters:

pulldown src.mpv dst.mpv -nopulldown -tff even
