I ripped "The Beach" to my hard drive, but there was an error in the VOBs, because of some scratches on the disk. At 1h4m30s or so, there is sort of a breakup in the image (because of the scratches) and pixelation, before the error is passed over and the next (working) scene pops in. mpeg2dec3 sort of hangs on this breakup, and displays 3 frames fidgeting back and forth for the rest of the movie. I checked my YUY2 script of the film with mpeg2dec, and it seems to display the image breakups and just continue on.
I've noticed this before: When encoding Ben Hur while using mpeg2dec3, the film would go into intermission and never come out of it for the entire remaining duration. If I recall correctly, YUY2 didn't have this problem in the film.

BTW, if you could point me in the direction of that thread, I'd be much obliged. I've tried searching for "mpeg2dec3 hang", "mpeg2dec intermission", "intermission hang", "YV12 hang", "YV12 intermission", etc etc, but I can't find the thread because I don't know the term they used to describe the bug.

It's towards the end of here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39941&perpage=40&pagenumber=3) and also here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42065). You'll kick yourself for not finding that last one :)
MarcFD is trying to fixit at the mo. Workaround is to trim out section or use YUY2.

I don't think it's been modified to give YV12 output yet. May be wrong though.
