I have been using IfoEdit (V0.96 B1) to back up my collection of UK PAL movies for several months, to date I have completed 40+ titles all of which play fine on PC's and most stand alone DVD players, I use Nero to burn the DVD-R discs V5.5.9.17, I have tried V5.5.10 but after my first batch of several coasters I reformatted my drive and reverted to V5.5.9.17 and all is well again.

My problem is that I just can't get a disc to play on either of my PS2's (UK PAL) one version 5/6 with Magic 3 chip and the other is an unchipped V7.

On examining the files with IfoEdit I note that both the VIDEO_TS.IFO and the VMGM_MAT were both showing Video Manager Menu attributes: Video: being incorrectly set to NTSC rather than PAL, the Title Set's were correctly showing PAL, so I immediately thought that I had found the problem and edited the video format to read PAL, saved, unloaded, re-loaded to check that it was now showing PAL and after confirming I burnt a new disc..... still won’t play.

Further investigation with IfoEdit revealed that VMGM_PGCI_UT, VMGM_C_ADT and VMGM_VOBU_ADMAP have no table information so maybe this is the problem but I can't work out how to correct this problem.

I may be going up the wrong garden path maybe someone could assist, the man him self would be great but he seems to have been beamed up or is on holiday :-)

I tried DVDXCopy V1.2.2 on silence of the lambs and found that the PS2 would only play disc 2 so the DVD-R media is fine (I have no problems with the back up DVD games on the same media) maybe the PS2 did not like the 321 warning screen on disc 1. Just put this bit in to show that the PS2 will play backups but not via the IfoEdit/Nero method although DVDXCopy used the Nero API, the PS2 also would not play discs using DVDBurn.

Hope someone can help.

I would suggest since you can't get any disks to play on your PS2 that you try this,

1) always do a get VTS sectors before you create the image.
2) throw nero away , preferably at a wall and never use it again for DVD burning
3) use Ritek G03 media
4) create the image of your directory structure with imgtool 0.89 or DVD maestro pre mastering image tool ( my current favorite ).
5) always write the new disks as images using Primo DVD.

If you follow these rules you won't go far wrong.

I thought that with IfoEdit V0.96 B1 that you did not need to do a get VTS sectors before burning as it was automatic in that version, but I will try it as a belt and braces method.

I have been using Nero for burning CD's for longer than I can remember, looking at the box's of old CD's that I have burn in the attic I must have burnt well over 1K and although most (99.9%) of what is on them is crap now I never like to throw anything away as I have found in the past many times that I always seem to need it a week or two later :-) In all that time I have burnt less than 10 (ten) CD coasters.

I must admit though that Nero is ***CRAP*** when it comes to burning compatible DVD's.

I have Primo which I use in the Golbal Image method to back up all my PS2 games without any problems although I have never used it as you suggest. I also have ImgTool V0.89 but have never even loaded it (I do not have "DVD maestro pre mastering image tool" hint hint) I will have a go at this method tonight and post back.

All my problems are now sorted 100%, not burnt a coaster in the last 30+ rips.

You were correct you MUST do a "Get VTS sectors" b4 burning to get a DVD copy to play on a PS2, set top box's are not so fussy but with the PS2 its a MUST DO.

Also I had a duff batch of DVD-R's which my supplyer changed together with all the coasters with no questions asked.

Ive been using ifoedit 0.95 since it came out, anybody know where i can get 0.96 cuz on derrows site it still says 0.95, and is there many fixes in 0.96.

IFOedit 0.96 was a beta version and was a non-public. You could've request it if you were a registered user at Derrow's site. Don't know if it's still available now even if you registered. There were alot of beta testers around back then that are still dwelling here but I wasn't one of them.

The 0.96 beta version is available but you have to pay your subs... To be honest there is not an awful lot of changes, Derrow was in the middle of some great upgrades when he was plucked from the keyboard by 321... boy dont they have a lot to answer for.

I notice from scraps of info here and there that hopefully in the not too distant future that Derrow may return to the IfoEdit development scene, that time can't come soon enough for me... but dont hold your breath or delay your holiday.
