CCE Encoding

I've just switched from rempeg to CCE 2.64 b/c rempeg stops at 60% or 70 % on most of the DVD movies I had (A beautiful mind, LA Confid. , Signs), so I've searched for many procedures claims that it is the most trusted ones.
The steps I followed are:
1- Rip using smart ripper or DVD-ripper.
3- Using DVD2AVI to generate D2V file. (Force Film for NTSC)
4- VFAPI to create a fake AVI file.

Here come my problem

1st, I use Bitrate Viewer to help me feed CCE with proper input

2nd, Drop the Fake Avi file into CCE, Edit the file take out the
Audi File (I will use IfoEdit to remux the M2V file later)

3rd, By using DVD-R Calculator, I Edit the Svg. Birate to be less than what DVD-R Calculator by few hundreds (if it is gave 4000, I set it up to 3800) just in case it make me sure that the output file will not exceed the max. size.

4th, for the min max, it was a story, I've tried to use 0, 4000 and 2000, 9000, 2000,8000, 0, 3800 and after setting the rest of the options then pressing encode it gave a big file at 40% (more than 3G),
WHY IS THAT???

5th, the rest of the settings are

Change the Aspect Ration to DAR 16:9
Make sure you select DVD Compliant, and Add Sequence End Code
The other settings you should get from the information from Bitrate Viewer If you have 2.5 click on the GOP tab and change N/M from 5 to 4. Version 2.64 already has a default of 4.
Click on ok Click Quality Settings. It should pop a window up that looks like this.

My problems are:
Why the file size is so big?
I never reached Pull down stage because CCE hanged at 49%. Even I have enough Space, Why it happened like that?

Plus, What are the right out file size i should have? and what is the avg. time it take to finish on P-4 2.4 Mgz, 512 RAM , 20 GB NTFS dedicated only for that usage.

why dont you let it finish and see what the m2v file size actually is , it doesnt convert to m2v straight away it will convert the fake avi file then it will write an m2v file , however mine says 68% and is reading under 3gb at the moment and it hasn't started to write the m2v file , also I am pal and not ntsc, I also use cce 2.50, I have never had any probs , did you remember your time code to reset it to 0.0.0.0 or you could have audio sync probs also did you strip the vobs of all the audio and subs you dont want with Ifoedit first , thats what I do , if you dont the dvd2avi file will be much greater and take ages to finish( my dvd2avi takes about 5 mins ):)

but I tried to let it go-on, it reaches alomt 80% then CCE just hanged! it shows since last 2 hours that 1:42 remining time. What could make my CCE doing like this?

Also, is there is any one could tell us what is the expected output file size of the m2v file that we should get?

you should look for a m2v file size of 3.6gb , I have just done black hawk down and set it at 3750 avg my file size came out at 3.8 gb , however I set grease at 4000 and it ended up being 2.7 gb it will depend on the length and the action in the movie , trial and error I'm afraid , but you need to get it working properly first , what file system are you running , is it ntfs ?

sorry ive just went over your original post and you have told me you have an ntfs file system ,

To be perfectly honest I dont mess around with the settings , but I set it to multi pass and set it to 1 instead of 3 , uncheck the audio , make sure its dvd compliant and set the time code to 0.0.0.0 , I dont mess around with the gop settings at all and I have not had any probs , but to be fair to you I dont have ntsc and pulldown exe , I know that the force film thing could be an issue but I cant coment on that , is there any one who could help this newbie trying to convert to cce 2.50:confused:

Just a suggestion to the guy who had CCE freeze up on him. CCE is a big
resource pig. I used to have bad problems with it freezing in the
DVD2SVCD proram. One guy at this forum suggested getting WinTasks
and running it under that. I did and my problem went away. WinTasks
allows you to assign priorities to jobs on your PC. Run CCE at RealTime
and you shouldn't have any more problems. I would strongly advise you
also not to use the PC for other jobs while it is encoding. It's OK
to leave it connected to cable modem or DSL, but don't be doing
anything on it while it's encoding. I don't remember the web page for
WinTasks, but a web search will find it. It's not free, but I think
they have a demo you can download. Maybe it will help. Also with
regards to your potential problem with file size, set your maximum
bit rate lower. Depending on some of your other values, you may be
encoding above your average value a lot more than you realize and
if so, lowering the maximum can help.

OK, i've do it on my P4 PC with 512 RAM.

The final m2v file after Paulldown is 3.9GB, using Ifedit to remux the file, giving me a total of 4.2 GB VOB files, just i went to see the movie b/f i burn them on Nero, i found that the movie getting so bad, the movie clips freez, fo a while then suddenly movie gets fast and again freez, and so on. Also, WinDVD shows on the status 0 MBbs!! what is going on? Am i doing somthing wrong?

uninstall it along with dvd2avi , then reload it and see if it helps , get the fukrulze.com dvd guide no4 and go from there , really easy to follow :cool: also get dvd decrypter , its so easy even I can work it and its free :sly:

b/f I do anything, Both P-III and P-4 PC are working in the same time but both gave the same bad output!

I will uninstall all from both PC's, And start a fresh installation, and then I'll post my feedback , Thanx

I've changed my procedure of DVD9-2-DVD5 with those steps:
1- Rip the movie by DVD smartripper or any ripper (make sure you rip the main movie file plus the Video_ts.ifo file)
2- Use DVD2AVI to have d2v file, make sure you select ForceFilm and TV scale in the video options if you are having NTCS movie.
3- Make a fake avi fil using VFAPI (verey easy)
4- using CCE (trial) with
ES Multi VBR (=2)
Avg. Birate = xxx(Depends on what you gor in the birate calculator)
Min Birate =0 , Max =9500,
Make sure you ticked the AUDIO STREAM
Other options you can got them from doom guides

Start encoding after few hours you will get an m2v file and an audio file you are going to use them later in IfoEdit

5- Use chapter extractor to extract the chapters save them into a text file
6- Use VOBedit and remux the substitle
So we have an ac3 Audio file, M2v File and Subtitle file + Chapters file
Just use IfoEdit, Author New DVD, Feed Each field with its file.
7- Press OK, wait untill it makes the IFO Files, Close, Open Ifoedit, Get VTS Sectors
8- Try the Movie and Later Burn it with Nero




This waht I've done b/f 4 hours since my last post, The Only thing I've which didn't work is the Chapters file, that after selecting it IfoEdit CARSH!!!

I go along without it and complete the Authoring with no chapters. Then it is working perfectly.

Any one have a sugesstion or comments or an answer for the reason causing IfoEdit carshes??

Another problem comes up, after I've got the m2v file, the audi file. I remux them in ifoedit using Author New DVD option. The output was 3.2 GB of IFO files. I've tested the movie and I've got a fast movie, just like "Charlie Chaplin" movies, and the sound is out of sync.

Did i done anything wrong in CCE ?

Just my 2 cents, try inputting your streams in out-of-order fashion like subs first, m2v second, and chapters last. Switch things around. You don't have to go in order from top to bottom. I had IFOedit crash on me constantly when I went from top to bottom and when I inputted subs, that's when it crashed on me.

I`m a newbee, but I think in CCE, you souldn`t check the audio button, leave it unchecked and do video only.

When you created you d2v project in dvd2avi, you should have demuxed the audio track right there, or when you ran smart ripper.

I also read that CCE encodes differently than Tmpeg, because it reconstructs frames differently during the encoding process, which makes it incompatable with Ifoedit as far as aurthoring. TMPEG has a template for ntsc film dvds that keeps in in sync with the video.

That`s why I belive you`re having problems with chapters or getting sectors in IFOedit, after running CCE, CCe has changed the format ..so to speak.

Now, I read that there is a way to use CCE and IFoedit,somewhere in this forum. It envolves first ripping the movie vob by vob with Decrypter, and encoding each Vob seperately in CCE, video on check in CCE, no audio.

In Decryptor, you demux each vob into a mvp file for each vob, then you do some stuff with IFO as far setting up the PGC`s. Doing this first, makes the movie compatable with CCE for aurthoring in Ifoedit later.
