Just installed the ATi TV Wonder, should I install MMC

I'd rather not install ATi's crappy MMC program but Windows 2000 is looking for drivers for the TV Wonder card. Is there a way to just install the drivers without MMC?

The TV Wonder is kinda old, and I have no experience with it, but I'm pretty sure you can extract what you need from the Rage/Radeon WDM install package.

Check the forums at www.rage3d.com/board/ in the VIVO section...there's gotta be something about it in there.

Yes, you should definitely be able to install only drivers for your card. Read the docs on the ATI site: http://mirror2.ati.com/drivers/mmc71tvwonder.html

"This software bundle (MMC_7_1_TVWONDER.EXE) contains 2 separate installation programs.

The first program installs the TV WONDER WDM drivers that are specific to the ATI TV WONDER / WONDER VE product. This program is launched automatically when you run MMC_7_1_TVWONDER.EXE.

The second program installs ATI MULTIMEDIA CENTER. You must start this program manually AFTER installing the TV WONDER WDM drivers. See section H) for details on installing ATI MULTIMEDIA CENTER."

So just install the drivers, and install whatever other program you want to watch TV with. Note that programs requiring video for windows will not work under Win2K, since all capture drivers under Win2k must be WDM. (You could try a wdm->vfw wrapper, but it's pretty dodgy.) Lastly, if you want to watch TV, I would recommend the ATI Multimedia Center. It is tailor made for your hardware, and should therefore run with minimal hassle. But if you want to capture video, you'd be better off with some other program.

I have to agree. I have the ATI TV Wonder VE on XP, and I had to make a trade off. I installed the MMC first and the TV viewing was great. But I couldn't capture at anything greater than 320 x 240 and I really didn't like what I was getting. To capture the best, I ended up installing some other drivers and using VirtualDub. But now the TV watching is jerky in VirtualDub. The ATI TV player won't work without the original drivers.

It was definitely a trade-off, but it was worth it for the best captures.

Use Dscaler to watch your TV instead.

i have an AIW radeon, and would love to try DScaler, but you cant.
i tried...no TV, no capture.

He is using a ATI TV Wonder not ati all-in-wonder
and ATi TV Wonder is a bt848 card, some old ati all-in-wonder is using bt848 chip too.
