Idiot here!

Can a kind soul point me to a direction so I too can learn to make all the wonderful high-end stuff, mentioned in this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38637 I'm on my 250+ SVCD and my 30+ DVD backup, and this thread made me feel like a complete and utter idiot! :)
My self confidence ir ruined for ever!!
Is the Manual the only way to get into the club?
All the guides I have read plus all the "what ifs" on this forum, although extremely helpful, either don't go into deep water, or even worse, I lack (= cannot find) the initial knowledge to understand them. Does a Power User Guide exist? I'm sure Real Power Users don't need one, but they too must have started from somewhere, right?
Does anyone know if the Maestro 2.5 (Not 2915a) full CD has the pdf manual, or at least a helpful manual? (I found one second hand in a newspaper ad, and was wondering if it was worth to buy)
Oh, ...and a Happy New Year!

I hate threads with 0 answers, which mean either:
1. that the poor guy never got his Q answered
2. that poor guy got his Q answered elsewhere, but didn't bother to close the thread, in benefit of others.

So, to close this thread, and to answer at least one of my Qs:

Does anyone know if the Maestro 2.5 (Not 2915a) full CD has the pdf manual, or at least a helpful manual? (I found one second hand in a newspaper ad, and was wondering if it was worth to buy)

YES! It IS worth buying!!! Now I have a LOT of bathroom reading material :)
