want to learn about new codec/technology

ok by now we all know how mpeg1/2/4 works.
but i'm interested in other alternative technology thats out there.

i wonder if someone can point me to a video/multimedia page that explain what other stuff like wavelet, fractial video or even rv9 compression.
or are there site that compare these technology.
