Is there a DirectShow "playtime" audio compressor?

I mean compressor as in, something that normalizes volume.

I'm looking for a way to boost volume beyond the available player and system settings on quiet tracks WITHOUT having to modify and reburn SVCD source.

Seems to me something akin to WinAmp's AudioStocker PRO (you can find it if you search the web hard enough) would be great.

Actually, a way to force sound through WinAmp as a stream would also work but it's have to play nice with PowerDVD, WinDVD, and all the other players.

How do you configure it?

I thought ffdshow was for MPEG-4 video. The homepage doesn't mention other stuff.

It'd really be cool if DirectX audio plug-ins could be used as system default.

DeDynamic.ax does this for you ... its coming with BSpalyer, Zoomplayer ( AFAIK ) and PowerDivX 3.12 ... amplifies by + 12 dB without clipping, compresses dynamics by - 20 dB ...

Well, I guess you can use them, but with a configuration that I can only se as ridiculous:

Use dsp2dshow to load Winamp DSP plugins as dshow filters
Use the AdaptX (http://jobsearch.chez.tiscali.fr/en/fdownlnk.htm) Winamp plugin with dsp2dshow
Load your favorite DirectShow audio effect filters in AdaptX.

TFM Audio Filter 0.8 beta allows boosting audio and includes an equalizer and some other effects.
