View Full Version : Workaround for greyscreen when opening avi files

When I saw that Gknot 0.27 opens avi files, it was what I'd been waiting for, especially since I've moved to doing all my caps with Huffyuv in VirtualDub. However, when I tried to open one of my captures, all I got was a grey screen. I saw some other people mention this problem, but no solution. Then I remembered seeing it mentioned 0.27 will also open avs files, so I made a one line avs opening my cap with the AviSource command. I then tried it in Gknot, and bingo, it opened perfectly!!. I then resized and cropped, BUT I didn't use the save and encode function. I merely closed the avs, and edited the original file. I don't know how TheWEF implemented avi files, but it appears to want uncompressed colorspace. I'm not complaining, since I know from my own experience how Murphy's Law LOVES computer programming. :0 This is merely an observation about using this new function.

I also need to load an avi into GK. I already figured out that I need to remove undot(), but I still want to see the good picture in GK, so that I can do correct cropping etc. Your method seems to be what I'm looking for! :)
However, I still need some help writing that single line of avs.
About my source:
It is a tv cap done with a digital camcorder. I didn't do it, that's why I lack this information. The size is about 6 gigs for 30 minutes, so it seems uncompressed avi for me :). But I have no idea how to tell the colorspace it's using. Gspot tells me: Video 4cc: dvsd; name: DVC/DV Video. I am able to play it with the Panasonic DV codec.
So could some wise person do me a noob's guide on how to do all this? The end is also not very clear to me ("I then resized and cropped, BUT I didn't use the save and encode function").
Thanks!

Correction: it's rather the "I merely closed the avs, and edited the original file" part that is not very clear to me. :)
