I recently noticed a difference in the audio quality of an MPEG-1 video clip when played with Windows Media Player versus QuickTime 6 or PowerDVD 4. WMP sounds somewhat flatter. The format is 44kHz stereo, 224kbps layer II. Is there a way to use the decoder from PDVD or any other?

You might have SRS WOW! effects enabled in WMP. Disable it and see if it sounds different.

I use WMP 6.4 or Media Player Classic so I do not think I have that option. I should clarify that I have not noticed a change in the sound with WMP just that in QT or PDVD it is better, and that is with no effects in those other players.
