Wasn't sure if this was the right place for this but as my standalone detects the final disc as "VCD", I thought I'd post it here.
I've been messing around with the Philips VCD Toolkit again lately, just for my own amusement I decided to figure out how to use it to create VCD 2.0 titles that contained CDDA tracks and to see how they played back in my Standalone (Pioneer NS-DV55, and it played back perfectly).
Now the Philips Toolkit is the only authoring tool that supports this feature of the VCD spec (to my knowledge), but this feature is usually dismissed in VCD projects as a waste of space, as MPEG audio tracks use up less space for no discernable loss of quality.
Then a thought struck me (doesn't happen very often :D), would it still work with DD and DTS encoded CDDA tracks? You bet your boots it does!
Obviously the same applies as when you playback your DD and DTS encoded CD's, you need to go digital out through your decoder, but there you have it, 5.1 AC3 and DTS audio tracks on a fully compliant VCD title, with PBC, stills, mpeg a/v et al. :)
Just wondered if anybody else had ever tried this succesfully, a quick search of the forum didn't return anything but I wouldn't be surprised if I've just reinvented the wheel.
Not sure how useful this will be in normal VCD projects, but it certainly is a way to pep up your DD/DTS-CD projects.
