View Full Version : GK 0.27 + VDMod + Avisynth 2.5

Hi!
Are there any suggestions how to run GK directly with VDMod? In the last changelog it has been mentioned to only rename VirtualDubMod.exe to VirtualDub.exe because of the .jobs-File to get working with GK. But I always get an error message if I do so. The .avs is correct as I can use it in VDMod separately. If I use VD (original) I got no errors otherwise so I believe the error must be in the interface between GK and VDMod. Has anybody got this combination working?

nope, I can reproduce this strange behaviour... probably the same error_message for you 'n me :confused:
I'm not sure if it's really a bug or just our stupidity (but I think the first ;) ) - but if it turns out to be a bug, than we should use the sourceforge facilities ;)

Question: Why do you want Gordian Knot to use VirtualDubMod instead of the normal VDub? GKnot won't use any of the extra features VDM gives us anyway.

Using VDM with Avisynth 2.5 will increase the encoding speed because of YV12. VD doesn't support that yet.
I'm also sad, because GKnot doesn't work with it for me. If I don't want to set my movies up for a long time I simply use the old avisynth. I have put the old avisynth.dll into the vd folder and the new one into the vdm folder <- works well for me.

1. comp_test if avisynth 2.5 is installed (normal vdub won't work as you can guess)
2. as Beave said... increase encoding speed

so are there any downsides? or the time saving feature overrides them all ???

It's still alpha, so it's under heavy development. Read the AviSynth forum for alot of info. Im going to wait for a Beta at least before I start using it for all of my encodes.

@scheps
The only downside I found so far ist that you need new filters.
:rolleyes:
Belgabor works on the described bug. We should keep waiting for a while. ;) I hope for the next version.:)

No. In fact, there's a theoretical quality increase since the color isn't transcoded back and forth and such. DVDs are inherently YV12.

Yes it's true, if you compare compressibility test between YUY2 and YV12, the YV12 result will be less than the YUY2 result. This means that YV12 keep more info from the original source (predicted size for YV12 is bigger than the YUY2 one).

i myself have been using VirtualDubMod 1.4.11.1 (and related dll's) sucessfully with gknot .27, i have tried the new versions without success. 1.4.11.1 seems fine, i've been getting encodes from it (with gknot) with no hassle and no noticable problems. but i am using the new vdubmod releases to mux and cut things though. hope this bit of info helps
