Some weeks ago I came across a "new" mp3 encoder (using LAME) which you should give a try.
A great advantage is that it's available in English and in German. And in contrast to many other freeware encoders its development is continued.
It's called LameFE and you can download it here:
http://lamefe.sourceforge.net/
Here is a description of the program from the authors website:
----------------
LameFE offers a simple GUI for LAME and other encoders. See some.
Here is a short list of the lameFE features:
- Supported Audio Formats: CD Digital Audio, Wave Audio, APE
- Supported Encoders: LAME, Ogg/Vorbis, Monkeys Audio, WAVE
- Query freeDB server to access file / and album information of CDs
- Fully automated Batchmode (can use all CD-Drives found in PC)
- CD-Backup and cuesheet support
- CDText and CDPlayer.ini support
- Write id3 version 1 and 2 tags/frames
- Id3 tag editor
- User defined filename format
- Play converted files / create play lists
- Detailed logging
- many more...
System requirements:
- Pentium CPU or 100% compatible
- 16 MB of RAM (32 MB recommended)
- Windows 98 / ME or Windows NT / 2000 / XP
- ASPI drivers (Adaptec ASPI drivers or 100% compatible)
- Internet connection (optional)
----------------
Please try it and report any bug to the author or post it in his forum to help improving it. If you are a programmer you can possibly participate in the development process.
