skipped frames-problem on my htpc...

hi,

i just got my hometheater-pc working and i already have a problem i can't fix. i watched two movies yesterday and sometimes there were skipped frames (i think that it were skipped frames, the video and audio played really fast until the next keyframe). the places where these appeared were really random, i watched the beginning of a movie twice and the skipped frames were on different places. they appear no matter if i play the movies directly from cd-rom or copy them to the hdd before. it isn't really nice watching a movie like this and i would appreciate any help...

my hardware:
- amd athlon b 1000
- msi k7t266 pro2 (kt266a)
- 256mb ddr-ram, infineon CL2
- ati radeon 7000 graphics card
- soundblaster live! 5.1 digital
- 30gb samsung-hdd
- 12x/40x liteon dvd-drive

software:
- win2k pro sp3
- directx 8.1
- all drivers correctly installed and configured
- zoom player 3.0b4
- ffdshow 2002-12-13 (i ONLY have ffdshow installed, no other video-decoder)
- intervideo audiofilter from doom9.org (they work perfectly for me)
- morgan stream switcher from doom9.org, too
- cd bremse (i tried with and without this prog, the skipped frames appear anyhow)

i really don't know what to do... i searched the forum already but i didn't find anything related to my problem. i don't think it's a hardware problem, the pc should be fast enough to decode divx and xvid.

help me, please!

isn't there anyone who knows something about the cause of these skipped frames and how to fix it?

i've noticed some things:

- it's not specific to one video-codec, it happened with xvid- and divx-movies
- it seems to be more often on movies with ac3-track, but these skipped frames appear on both, movies with mp3 or ac3
- the movies play perfectly on my primary pc, so they're not corrupted or anything similar

i think it has to be a codec-problem of some kind but i can't find it. the fact that these skipped frames appear more often on movies with ac3-track made me try some other ac3-filters (ac3filter by valex v0.63b and the newest intervideo filter from windvd 4.5), but none of them worked as good as the one from doom9s audiofilter-pack.

could there be some problems with ffdshow? i use it on my primary pc, too, and it works perfectly but you never know... i only activated postprocessing (automatic quality control, nic's method) and noise (luma 15, chroma 5). could there be anything wrong with these settings?

i really don't know what causes this problem, it almost drives me insane :angry:. the hardware should be fast enough to decode video...
