DVD to seperate MPEG files??

I think DVD2SVCD can do this, but I wanted advice from the experts before I go further.

I'm going to get the Buffy the Vampire series on DVD and each disc contains 3 or 4 episodes (I think). I have no desire to copy or re-encode the files to DVD-R. All I want to do is rip the VOB files straight to separate MPEG files per episode, with the same video quality in tact. The resulting file will only need to be played on a PC.

I assume this is the easiest method to do since it doesn't require reencoding or reauthoring to a (S/V)CD/DVD-R format. Just an mpeg2 file per episode.

What do I need to do for this? Would I use DVD2SVCD or another application?

On second thought, perhaps MPEG4 or DiVX would be better suited for this purpose?

Yes, this would be very easy. Just use the same routine as explained in the Q&A for per-episode conversion, but don't create CD images, and just use the muxed MPEG as the final episode.

However, divx would be much better for this, seeing as it'll only be played on your computer and the filesize will be much smaller.
