Jerky playback on only one standalone

I have a very interesting problem. If I use ifoedit to backup a movie that is under 4.3 and play it on my Kenwood DV-5900M it plays back fine. As smooth and clear as the original. Now if i re-encode and try playing that back in the same SA its very jerky. The interesting part is if i play the same movie in other SA's or the computer it plays fine. Can anyone think of why this would be happening. Its not a media issue cause like i said i don't have this problem if i use the Movie Only option in ifoedit and it's under 4.3. Could it be the Faroudja deinterlacing built in to the kenwood. I found an option to turn it off within the SA and it doesn't seem to correct my problem. Seems to me if i can play the other movies under 4.3 i should be able to get a re encoded movie to play just fine.

Did you used cce and TOP FIELD FIRST ??

Oh sorry I guess i left out some info. No i did not check top field first in CCE. I checked the field orders in the original and the encoded movies and they are both top field first. Like I said it seems to be only the Kenwood giving me the problems.

If anyone is interested i figured out my problem. I had "pro_seq - mask entire stream as: (*)Progressive ( )interlaced" checked in pulldown. Now I want my flags checked so i have a progressive dvd as my SA is progressive and this will yeild much better quality. So as for pulldown i keep 2 things checked "prog_frames - mask each frame as: (*)progressive ( )interlaced" and "set drop_frame_flag for NTSC streams: (*)true ( )false" And my world is a much better place now. Everything is playing great in numerous SA's including my Kenwood which to be honest is all i even care about. I hope maybe my findings will help others make a more compatable DVD in the furure.

I also once tried the "-prog_seq p" option and got the same jerky results.

I use "pulldown in.m2v out.m2v -prog_frames p"

I don't use the drop frame flag. Should I?? Seem to work good without it.

Well i can't tell you for sure. After reading many posts about pulldown i was under the impression that all 3 I had checked before would yield better quality and be more compatible with SA's. Not exactly sure what the drop frame flag is but it didn't seem to affect the jerkyness. So that said i'm gonna leave it checked until someone tells me different for it doesn't seem to hurt anything so far. Unchecking the "prog_seq p" fixed the jerkyness but only for my Kenwood SA. All the other SA's handled it just fine. So i'm starting to believe it has something to do with the newer technology within the Kenwood. Reguardless unchecking it obviously makes a more compatable dvd. What DVD player were you getting jerky playback problems having "prog_seq p" checked? Is it a newer model and does it have the Faroudja Deinterlacer built into it? I'd like to get to the bottom of exactly what inside the Kenwood didn't like the "prog_seq p" flag checked.
