My 100th.post!There is a fairly cheap program called Cool 3D from Ulead(about$40)as an alternative to After effects for creating nice looking graphics for menus. It certainly is not a professional program by any means but you can do some nice motion stuff with exploding/dancing/lightning etc.effects and output in .avi which can then be re-encoded by CCE.There is also an Ntsc filter.I just did a nice 2 part(intro & main)menu(all 3d graphics)that rendered to a 1gb avi and CCE turned into an amazing looking 20mb m2v.And no,i don't work for Ulead but i was surprised at how well it turned out.

Thanks for sharing the info! Many people have asked if there is a cheaper alternative to Adobe After Effects. Sounds like this would be a decent solution for them. Thanks also for actually trying it out and telling people about it. All too often someone mentions something obscure without ever having tried it. Hopefully those on a budget looking for an alternative to After Effects will try this out.
