Hi

Have been following this thread with interest but I just can not get my subtitles to work at all. I'd be happy just to see them even if they werent sync'd so long as they are there!

The movie I'm doing is the Mummy. All I want are the subtitles when they speak ancient egyptian. I used Subrip to identify the correct subtitle stream. I selected save as bitmap etc as suggested in the guide. I have a folder called 'subs' in which are all the bitmaps plus a file called mummy.son.

I have loaded the chapters, encoded m2v from tmpegenc and the ac3 audio. I then load the mummy.son into the 'ABC' part of Maestro.
So far so good. I then compile. It creats the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders with the vobs etc. If I try and play the vobs on PowerDVD XP there are no subtitles. Video and audio are sync'd fine. I havent created any menus or anything as I just want the movie and audio (plus subtitles where necessary).

Do I need to do anything with Ifoedit or any other sort of program to get my subtitles to appear before looking at the vobs with Powerdvd XP?

I have tried authoring with Ifoedit but also with no luck.

I think I'm also there and that its something simple that I"ve overlooked somewhere.

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

thanks

Steve

Hi,
PowerDvd does not plays subs. from the HD. It only plays subs. from disc ( i believe ). Try WinDvd to see the subs. from HD, or Ifoedit ( as i do ).

Arthur is wrong. PowerDVD does play subs from HD as long as u r in a disc mode and not on a file mode.

However if there isn't an option for default showing them u have to manually select them. Click on the subs point, next to the audio one in PowerDVD and check the 'Display subtitles' option. All of them ofcourse if u haven't changed aspect ration of the movie up on reauthoring or u haven't changed resolution to 352x288 or 356x576 for space purposes.

Hi,
i thought that in disc mode it would play from the disc only!! In file mode it plays from the HD!! If you choose disc mode donīt it play whatīs on the dvd? No mather what you have on HD.
How can you see the subs after ripping the movie to the HD, with PowerDvd, and not having the Dvd inserted on dvd-rom? I still believe it doesnīt show the subs.

hello Arthur, happy new year,

in powerDVD XP u have a new option 'Play DVD files on HD'. There u can load the VIDEO_TS.IFO form the DVD u ve just ripped and play it like it was on a disc in your DVDRom drive with menus, subs etc.

Perhaps u dont have the XP version, aka 4.0.

Hi

Tried it and it didnt work. Subtitles was greyed out and couldnt select it.

I have the XP version. I'm starting again from scratch.

Have so far ripped the disc using DVD Decrypter (file mode).

Following another threads advice I have used IFOedit to strip out unwanted stuff - extra audios and unwanted subtitles. I then created new vobs.

I then used PowerDVD XP to open the new VIDEO_TS.ifo and at first there were no subtitles until I checked and saw that subtitles had been turned off in PowerDVD. I turned them on and the subtitles appeared as they should.

Thats as far as I've got but so far so good. Will continue later today and will let you how I get on.

Thanks for your advice
