OK, so explain this

I have cce to reencode my video. I was using vfapi and getting an encode rate consistently at .470. I read up on some posts on avisynth and figured this was the way to go. Looked like it was going to be much faster that vfapi. After asking many people here how to do it, got it down somewhat well. I started getting speeds of .520. A little better. But now I have a separate problem, which I won't deiscuss because it's not really why I'm posting.

What I needed to do was do a small test on a video file. I opened up dvd2avi and clipped about a 4 minute video file from a vob from my movie. At the time I still had my vfapi setup rather easily. So I decided, just on this test, I would use the vfapi. Well, I was shocked to see that my speeds had jumped to .580, in vfapi. Now why would it be faster than avisynth?

Btw, why the hell do you think anybody "should" reply to a thread with such an irritating title (except me possibly ;)) ?!

I can only suggest that "you" go on using vfapi instead of avisynth if you are so pleased with (the speed of) it...

I find the issue of whether VFAPI is faster than AviSynth one big, loud yawn. When's the last time anyone wrote a plugin for VFAPI? It is much easier to write filters for AviSynth than VirtualDub, I can even do it! To send everyone to their dictionaries, I'd like to summarize by saying I like AviSynth because it is extensible. (Oooh, fancy word.:D )

Using VirtualDub with fast recompress rather than full processing? Without using any filters, VFAPI might be faster, it certainly isn't slow! I used VFAPI for a long time and even now I might switch back and forth depnding on what options I want.

I'm not a moderator here. But I feel that, from time to time, it is more effective if not only the moderator is the "bad guy", by ensuring that even normal forum members not only accept the forum rules, but see their necessity.
