Widescreen TV....I get black all around image?

I tried reading the FAQ's but it really didn't answer my question...

I got a Widescreen TV for X-mas and I loaded up some of my old rips on my DVD player....and I now get black all around the movie. Not just at the top and bottom, but on the left and right too. Where the movie is playing is fine, but....What setting in DVD2SVCD do I need to change this so the rip will at least take out the black parts on the left and right of the image, and possibly at the top and bottom as well. Thanks in advance, you guys have always been great helping out. :)

before changing the settings in dvd2svcd, shouldn't you read the manual of your tv? ;)

in my opinion, the best way to combine dvd2svcd and widescreen tv's is as follows:

in dvd2svcd encode in 4:3. this way the anamorphic picture is preserved and the maximum of your resolution is used. who needs black bars when they have a widescreen tv?

now your tv. because the picture is anamorphic. this will result in eggheads, UNLESS you set your tv zoom at "full" or "widescreen" or whatever it's called by the brand you've got.

you'll get the best resolution and detail this way. because we're talking svcd and not dvd, most of the time the tv zoom has to be set manually.

i hope any of this makes sense.

change the dvd2svcd level to advanced (folder misc).
Then select anamorphic before starting the conversion.

The picture will be encoded without black bars on top and bottom.
It's the best thing you can do when u use a widescreen TV.
If u want to watch this movies on a 4:3 TV your dvd player must
be able to add the black bars again.
I noticed that especially cheaper modells do not support this feature.

Am I wrong or is he asking how to _remove_ overscan? Which would need the crop line for the avs file.
