Okay,
First let me say this. I did search through the fourms and saw that many have the same problems as me, but no one gives information on how to fix the problem.
Problem: Audio/Video sync on digitally captured AVI files.
I capture like this... Play a VHS tape in VCR, send signal to my sony HandyCam Digital8 passthrough, send from Digital8 to computer through fire wire.
I've captured using Studio7, scenalyzer, vegas video, window movie maker, and on.. and on...
My system is fairly fast with an XP2100+ 512MB DDR-ECC-R, Abit KG7, WD1200(8mb buffer). No matter what I do, the longer the movie, the more the audio goes out of sync.
I used scenalyzer to split the movies into 2GB files and thought the problem was fixed. After converting to MPEG2 files, everything still seemed okay as far as I could tell. Then I join the files together (TmpgEnc Mpeg tools) and after it done, the sync problem comes back at the EXACT same spots I would get when doing a long, continious AVI file.
I can capture with my Pinnacle DC10+ in one long file and it stays synced. But if I render to MS DV Codec (so that I can transcode with CCE for best looking video)the rendered file will go out of sync in the same spots.
If I render the video to MS DV Codec using only 60min splits, and then join the 60min sections (TmpgEnc tools), it's all PERFECT! But this takes MANY hours.
Why can't I capture in digital without loosing the sync? It saves so much time, but sync is screwed up.
Does ANYONE know what causes this. It must be a Codec or File System thing I'm thinking.
I would even buy a Canopus 1394 capture card if I KNEW it would fix the problem, but somehow I doubt it would.
ANY insight as to what causes this would be greatly appreciated...
