Troubles ripping Band of Brothers

Hi,

Im experiencing some troubles ripping Band of Brothers, i did read the forum but i still can't seem to get it working.

As you might know Each Dvd contains 2 episodes "region 2 version"
When i hit the movie lenght tab i can see the two episodes
Episode one is aprox 70 mins. episode two is about 49 mins.

But when i try to convert the 2nd episode which i select in the movie leght tab, i will end up with a very nicely converted episone ONE :(

There is one .IFO file one the dvd

I really have no clue on how to fix this maybe you guys do?

I encoded the whole B. of B.'s series and never ran into this problem. I don't recall any of the movie lengths varying by as much as the 21 minutes indicated in your post, but I did Region 1. Is it possible that you selected the same movie length twice in a row by mistake? These were fairly straightforward, as each movie length fit nicely onto one CD-R disc.

Now i tried to rip only the second episode from the dvd with smartripper, which works but when i load the .Ifo file in the dvd2svcd prog. it freezes?

i really have no clue here maybe it has something to do with the region 2 thingie here??? protection ???? i don't know ?

But it's gettin me highly motivated here, i wan't the complete season hehehe

Wow, I've never seen this one. Does the change of movie length occur right in front of you as you set defaults/destination/etc.?

If it weren't for the fact that you've already produced a conversion from this disc, I might look at the Aspi layer, but I'm kinda lost here too. I'm not a very good troubleshooter yet. Hmm, is it possible that you have the Cue/Bin or CD Image file left over from the first successful conversion, and this is the one that's showing up instead of your second one? Just a shot in the dark. This isn't much help, maybe someone with more experience will drop in with a better idea, or turn you on to the real fix. You should be able to rip this disc using the internal routines unless there is something else going on here that we don't know about. Good luck!

No it can't be the bin or que files cause i burned it on cd, and removed it from the harddisk.

I'm out of options :(

This probably isn't the EXACT solution to your problems, but hopefully it would be a workaround.

I posted a thread on How to split Band of Brothers to multiple DVDs (1 episode per DVD)

Using this method, you should end up with two properly formated DVD Images that should then be a cinch to convert to SVCD.

I will pass the dvd to a fried of mine and let him look, but i really doubt if he can make it work, as i said erlier i really have no clue on how to solve this. this is strange !

But hey it's all in the game :)

I will post my experiences if there are any ;)


as for you Silent Bob, i might try your option but i first will try to sort things out the normal way :)

I'll go get this disc and take another look, but I want to make absolutely certain that it is disc one with episodes One and Two on it. Let me know. Oh, and one more thought, are there more than two movie lengths listed in the drop-down box on your Region 2 disc?

@SilentBob: I took a look at your workaround, it looks pretty slick, but do you see something we're missing here by trying to do a straight DVD2SVCD backup? Rock on...

It is disc one (region 2 version) and contains episode 1 and 2, when i rip the dvd and i check the movie lenghth tab there are three times displayed.

1st is aprox 70 mins which is episode one
2nd is aprox 49 mins which is episode two
3rd there is one of 12 seconds

now correct me if im wrong : the one of twelve seconds is the interactive menu where you can choose witch episode you want to watch
and will popup when you insert the dvd in the drive.
at least i ended up with that menu when i opened the file

Now i did pass the dvd to a friend of mine so before you get yourself into a lot of trouble :) it is better to wait and see with what he comes up with.

I'm not sure about it since yours is a region 2 disc. Is it PAL or NTSC?

On mine, NTSC, region 1, I've got a VTS_01_XXX and a VTS_02_XXX

VTS_01 contains 3 VobIds. One is episode 1 one is episode2, and one appears to be the FBI warning.

VTS_02 which is 55 seconds is the Interactive Field Guide.

I'm not exactly sure why your method isn't working.

I do know that before I did it this way, I first tried ripping the individual movie streams using SmartRipper.

I'm not sure exactly what I got, but the VOBs were so messed up at that point that I couldn't even get it to play on my PC.

Ok quick update :

My friend told me that he has no trouble at all rippin this dvd, probably due to the fact that he used the newest version of the dvd2svcd bundle.

I will try this and hopefully it works.
So for now thanx for the Help! :)

Update:

Ok i did install the new Bundle etc, but the same problem occured.

Since i ripped the .vob files for episode 2 with smartripper which did not seem to be dvd2svcd fav viles :) ending up with my pcu crashing, i decided to rip the dvd with dvd decryptor.

This works for me and i actually did convert episode two :) but now the following prob crossed my path.

After the audio extraction etc the video encoding start, normally i have two or three testclips during this encoding and when those are finished tmpeg start encoding the entire movie.

But when i browsed the dvd2svcd log i saw that it did almost 10 Testclips of 15 mins???? i mean wow that's a lot.
Is there anyway that i can turn of the testclips or something cause is saves 150 mins or so hehehehe.

Maybe it has something to do with the .ifo file since i only ripped the 2nd episode leaving the first one out?

well, at least i got episode two, lets rock on to the following 8 hehehe :)

Here's how you rip the Band Of Brothers DVDs with internal ripper (just did it yesterday):

Enable DVD ripping and click on the CD icon on the conversion tab.
Switch to the DVD Rip tab and disable ripping.
Go back to the Conversion tab and from the Movie length dropdown, select the first entry (this is PGC1, i.e. the first episode on the DVD).
Enable ripping on DVD Rip tab, go back to the Conversion tab.
Now click the down arrow of the Movie length dropdown once again and simply close the Chapters window that pops up.
Select Go - Rip (either Rip only or Rip and Convert)

For the second episode on each disk, do as shown above but in step 3, select the second entry in the Movie length dropdown.

Do not use other rippers, you see it causes problems. Hope this helps.

RB, excuse my ignorance but where do I find this "internal ripper"

I have and have uses SmartRipper and DVD Decryptor, but I have never heard of internal ripper.

I would like to give your method a shot.

Well, it's built into DVD2SVCD. Go to the DVD Rip tab, there is "Activate DVD ripping" and you should set it to "Use Internal routines".

ahh, okay...I'm actually trying to do these rips for a conversion to DVD-R, so I'm not using the DVD2SVCD

I tried your method but as I expected i does not work.
and i tried it on both of my pcu´s

In fact the internal rippin proces does not work for the 2nd episode
i can rip the dvd but when i try to select it in the movie tab it just skips back to the 1st episode over and over again

as you can read in my earlier posts

I realy don´t know why it doesen´t work with the internal rip.
i have done maybe a 40 movies and never ran into any problem

But im using dvd decryptor now which gives me the desired quality :)

It works, trust me. I, too, am ripping from the region 2 PAL DVDs. Follow my instructions step by step, make sure you are running the latest DVD2SVCD build and it will work. It sounds like you left out step 5.

the above mentioned is what happens every time no matter what i do, and i tried a lot of options :)

Ok i managed to covert all episodes :)

I found out that no matter what i did dvd2svcd always will pick the largest episode on the dvd, but after trying several options, ripping the needed files with dvd dycrypter seemed the best option. t

So for all whom gave me response on my questions ........
