CCE 2x faster under Win98 than 2000

Hello.

I've made a little test on a little file, and find a big
surprise !
Input file : An uncompressed AVI file of 720x576 25fps of
1112 frames (roundly 40s). This file was on an HD on
the secondary master IDE. The result MPV file was saved
on an HD on primary slave IDE. There is no audio.
Tested with an Intel PIII 1GHz.

Under Windows 2000 :
Version 2.64 : Speed 0.35
Version 2.66 : Speed 0.40

Under Windows 98 :
Version 2.64 : Speed 0.65
Version 2.66 : Speed 0.67

I think the speed under 98 may be
And, the most surprising is, despite what it's said,
the 2.66 version work under Windows 98 (note tested multi-
pass VBR yet).

I don't know what slow down under Windows 2000...:confused:
"Decoding" AVI, memory management, read/write HD...?
On both systems the latest Chipset driver and Intel
Application accelerator are installed.

Well, i just got oposite results :)
I have a dual-boot system (win98se and winxp), and in all test using both cce 2.50 and cce 2.66.1.7, xp was always a little faster than win98.

I tried with a full riped dvd, and got this:

Win98SE ~ 1,26
WinXP ~ 1,31

Can you be a little more specific about your test condition ?
What kind of AVI file ?
What processor, what speed ?

BTW, if i make the test on uncompressed AVI file, it's for a
good reason : test only the speed of CCE, and not the speed
of the codec of the AVI file, netherless the speed of an
evantualy frame server, wich is the slowest way !!

Well, i must confess that the test was made using a avs script, and the source a ripped dvd (vobs).
But the conditions were the same for both win98se and winxp (the exact same script, etc.)

My machine is a AMD XP 1900+, with 256 MB Ram.

Alls the tests depend of what you want to test.

If you want to test purely the speed of CCE, you have
to be sure that all the time will be done for encoding.
Uncompressed AVI seems to me to be the best thing, because
there is no time loss in deconding, but i may be wrong...

But, in your case, you've found thant with your specific
case XP is faster thant 98SE, good for you, i've only one
thing to say for you : use XP :)

In my case 98SE is 2x faster, so i'll will use it.

The results of my test has surprised me, it's why i've
posted it. Maybe the peoples who are complaining about low
speed may do some tests under Win98SE, maybe they'll have
the same surprise than me, maybe not...
I still don't understand the difference in speed, my
Win2000 is not a server version, and there's only program
for DVD authoring/encoding installed.
ALLs my others stuffs (internet, and all) are on my 98SE
partition.

I want to add that the 2.66.01.07 version works perfectly
fine under 98SE.

I agree. :)

Unfortunately for me, AutoCCE works very well only in Win98SE :(

I am still having problems with it in winxp, but very recently i tried a new thing that can solve my problems (see the "new tool for CCE..." thread if interested.
