Using DVD2AVI to obtain clips from a movie

I never tried it until yesterday, but it seems DVD2AVI has the ability to let you select a subsection of the movie to extract and convert to something else! I had no idea it could extract parts of the AC3 file as well! I have only tried it once, so it could be a fluke that it works, but I expected the AC3 file would be corrupt or something. I have no idea how DVD2AVI is doing that..but it is REALLY nice if it does. All this time, I've been doing it in Adobe Premiere after converting everything to AVI...this is MUCh better :)

Tell us more details.

I am just starting to look at using Premiere (6.02) for certain editing functions (I use it already for my camcorder work, so keeping to the same package would be good.

well I haven't experimented with it enough to know if it works all the time or not. I mean I expect the audio to lose sync or something annoying like that. But who knows, maybe it does work well.


I'm going to try retrieving several small clips from a couple of DVD's I have and then see how the audio syncing goes. The last time I did this, I converted everything to DV avi and 6 wav files, and trimmed things in Adobe Premiere 6. it took forever, and the result was dumb because some of the clips had audio sync problems.

my doubt(or mistake):
in dvd2svcd,if you choose "use frame selection",
don't let you select a subsection of the movie?

I've never used dvd2svcd so I don't know.

I used it today to extract two clips from the CROW. They look and appear fine! But I haven't played them on a standalone player yet. The clips are really small, so I want to collect a few more clips before authoring a DVD.

But from what I can see, it appears they're in sync.

ive used dvd2avi for years. i always used to cut the begaining crap and credits off to make smaller mpeg files with dvd2avi. i never had any problem with async sound or anything.
ive cut small parts of movies to check to see how they will compress and made live videos of songs from full concert dvds. dvd2avi works very well clipping parts of ripped vobs.
