I'm a newbie when it comes to dvd burning and trust me I've searched 3 forums and read the guides and could not find the answer that would help me. This is what I know:

1. To make a backup of a dvd, I need to decrypt the dvd and rip it to my hard drive. I am using a program called dvd decrypter. This creates a VIDEO_TS folder on my C which has the decrypted information:

2. I realize that I may only record a dvd movie that is no more that 4.3gb in size (normally) on to one dvd-r disk. So, basically I have everything ready to burn to dvd-r. This is where I get messed up.

3. I open the Nero 5.5.9.17. From my readings, some people use the "Dvd-Video" option and others use the "Dvd Rom(UDF)" option. I tried both w/ the default settings and it did not work.

4. I make sure that when I open the file I drag all the information into the "VIDEO_TS" folder. The "VIDEO_TS" is captialized. In fact, in Nero in "Dvd-Video" mode the "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folder is made for you. I drag all the files (VOB & IFO)it says I can't drag the "stream information" file, which I'm sure is normal, right?

5. Next when I burn, Nero says complains about complains about invalid files, but I click ok anyways. Then it says there may be read errors or something to that affect, but I click ok. It burns the dvd but when I trying playing it in a dvd player or on the computer's dvd rom, it doesn't play and the computer says wrong format.

6. I tried using the Nero "Dvd-Rom(UDF) way and when it completes burning the dvd is not playable in the computer or a dvd player. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Could it be that I'm not Decrypting properly? I have all the vob and ifo files and am using the default setting on dvd decrypter. Any help would be appreciated. I have a pioneer A05 (for some reason Primodvd doesn't recongize my drive, even w/ the lates engine). I have sucessfuly record backups w/ dvdxcopy, but do not like the "this is a backup" in the beginning of my dvd, so I know my burner works. Thank you all in advance.

Here is a cut and paste from some messages on the forum about Nero settings I have used:

1. Nero works just fine in the recent versions as long as the projecttype is really set to DVD-Video. All the media which I burned were made with the default settings of Iso Level 1, ISO 9660 and Joliet enabled. They play on a Pioneer 343, a Yamakawa 780, a Sony xxx-300 (don't remember the letters) and another old Pioneer 909 (LD and DVD). "

2. "i use nero and i always record a DVD UDF project with al default settings. as for the label... if you don't really care you can use any name, as i tried and it works!!!"

3. "Chosing DVD-Video creates the correct folders, sorts the files in the right order and will even do basic checks for the correct files, though from 5.5.9.14 on you can burn even if Nero complains about invalid files, so you get all the help the program can supply, but have all possibilities as well."

4. "I finally found the Problem which leads to the bad
DVD-R Disk.
My standalone refuses to play this disk.

It`s in fact very simple. I don`t use the "DVD-Video" option
since this created my coasters. Instead i use the DVD-ROM(UDF)
Option and made the following settings :
no multisession
UDF Version 1.02
just keep in mind if you title the DVD keep the letters uppercase

and thats it.

after hitting the "Burn" Button
Nero sort the Vob Files the right way.

Et voila the first working DVD-R burned with Nero
(Version 5.5.9.14)
I am not sure but i try this also with Vob instant cd/DVD
it should work also."

5.) "Yep....that's the Nero DVD selection I use.

I've been burning DVD backups for the past 2 months with nero 5590

I always chose the DVD_ROM/UDF selection.

I also make and drag a dummy "AUDIO_TS" folder to the burn before I drag over my "VIDEO_TS" folder."

I guess I truly am a newbie, I figured out what I was doing wrong. In dvd decrypter, I was choosing the "IFO" mode which chose only 5 of the VOB files. It took me a few hours (yes hours) to figure this out. I looked everywhere and could not find instructions, even on the dvd decrypter forums (where I eventually found one posting asking the same question I was) I now choose the "FILE" option in the mode menu and highlight EVERYTHING to be decrypted. Then I burn in the dvd-video mode using the NERO method above. Hope this helps someone

You should try burning with ImgTool. It use the Nero Engine but it straight forward. (and free, thx Coujo)

Another solution is DVDDecrypter ISO read, ISO write (if a DVD-5)
Have a look to sticky How to test media compatibility.

BTW, did you modify something with Ifoedit or is your DVD a DVD5 ?
