problems with btwincap on win98

Hi!


I've the Pinnacle PCTV pro. The driver only supports 288 Lines and the btwincap driver doesn't work. After I've installed it and enter the capturing mode in VirtualDub there comes a pop-up window to select the video driver. I've selected my TV card and then the same window appear again and again. I haven't found anything with the forum search funktion. Does the driver don't support this card under Win98? I've read that win98 is supported and my card is supported too.

Occasionally works with WDM driven devices and Virtual Dub if there is a problem.

Boot it in a proper WDM managing program like UleadVideoStudio or iuVCR (kinda free) and then select the video source and things, crossbar if any and then hit preview. Then try to get VirtualDub going, it is a little impractical, but always works for me. Kinda jumpstarting the card.

btwincap works from win98SE onwards.....
pure win98 shouldn't work with btwincap
as it lacks wdm support.......

I've searched in in all Sub Menus and I haven't found it.

Options > Settings > Video tab! :rolleyes: Enter the res you want, and add check on the "Use custom settings" box. :cool:

Configuration (res. setting isn't there)
bios settings
task scheduler setup
channel setup

I've tries iuVCR too, but it's also not working (I can select the TV card and the codec, but all settings of the tv card (Channel, red, ... are not available). Moreover this program is shareware (30 days).

What else can I do to get 576 lines?

I mean in VVCR, not Windows! :sly: I'm beginng to think you're pulling my leg. :devil:

Start VVCR, then Options > Settings > Video tab to the resolution you want. You also have to make sure that the country code under Options > Settings > Tuner > "Tuner Settings" is set to your correct country code (same one you used when installing the BTWinCap drivers.) Also make sure you have the correct "Video Standards" selected, on that samw screen. Let me know if you still have problems. :(

Mike, yes there are-- I just did it 10 seconds ago. Maybe you are not using VirtualVCR?

Right at the top of the VVCR screen is the menu bar, with two different pull-down menu selections... one is "Options", the other is "Capture"! Good luck.

Uuuups google took me to the wrong site I downloadet VirtualVCR (don't know the adress now). The status window sais that the homepagr is www.virtualvcr.de.vu, but that wasn't the adress I downloadet it. I got Version 1.11, but the current Version of that program is 2.0!? LOL! Now I've seen http://www.digtv.ws/html/virtualvcr/ (Hope that this is the right one).

Yes, www.digtv.ws is the correct URL! I forgot there is another app by the same name! :eek: The other app is based on (or uses) VirtualDub, IIRK. The one you just found is the correct one. :D

Let me know if you have any problems. It can be a little confusing to setup for the first time.

Does VirtualVCR split captured files after 2GB? I havn't read anything about that on the website.

No. :( And according the the author, he doesn't have a clue how to make that work. When I first suggested VirtualVCR, I didn't know you were using Win98SE (yes, I know-- it's right in the subject line.) It needs a NTFS formatted drive, to capture over 2GB. :( That means something like 2K or XP. VirtualVCR is what made me upgrade from WinME to XP.

In this case I'll make a dual boot system if the problem is solved afterwards. But avi files have a maximum size of 2GB. Is VirtualDub able to open so large files?

Old type AVIs were limited to 4GB. The 2GB limit was a FAT file system limitation (or that might be other way around.) Anyway, v2 AVI files on an NTFS formatted drive, are not limited to 2/4GB, and VirtualDub won't have a problem with the large AVIs. I open multi-100GB AVIs in VDub!:devil: VirtualVCR also keeps great AV sync, without the need to add/drop frames anymore!:cool:

2gb avi limit and 4gb fat file.....

Doh, I forgot!: You could just use VirtualDub Sync to do your captures in Win98SE. This also supports the audio resampeling method of maintaining AV synch, and will work with the BTWinCap drivers. See http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~dittrich/sync/

The problem is not the sync and not VirtualDub. The driver of the manufactorer are only WDM driver and because VirtualDub only use vfw driver I can only capture with 288 lines and BtWinCap also doesn't work.
