Is it possible to reburn movie to cdr adding pbc w/o reencoding?

I looked in the forum but found no answer. I have several old movies that I encoded via dvd2svcd(cce2.5) and use i-author. the PBC is screwed up, such as when you reach end of disc, it skips back to chapter 2 instead of going to change disc image, numbers dont work, and audio video is out of synch. I know the out of synch cannot be fixed, be I was wondering is there a way to take the svcds that are burnt to cdr and re-burn them to new cdr with PBC using vcdxbuild. It is much better program and I should have used it all along.

Just wondering, because I dont want to rencode because I assume picture quality will get gradually worse.

You should be able to just copy the .mpg file from the MPEG2 directory on the SVCD and then drop it into your authoring program. If for some reason you can't just copy it off the disc VCDGear should be able to extract it. For finding the chapters, EasyVCD can recover the XML file, which contains chapter info. Right now EasyVCD only gives me this option for an .bin/.nrg image file, but it may be because I don't have my burner in now since the options to read from a CD are there but unavailable.

So can I drag & drop it into dvd2svcd? I want to use vcdxbuild instead of what was originally used (I-Author) because I-Author is crap in my opinion. I want to add the change cd bmp at end of disc. I tried using vcd easy and made a new image on hd, but it plays same as original movie, gets to end of movie and skips back to chapter 2. I always had this problem with i-author. Also, with vcdxbuild, I can add use selections so I can use numeric pad as well.

Basically this is what I got:

SVCD 2500kbps video, 192 audio, encoded CCESP2.5, I-Author, Nero, PBC only changes chapter with << >> buttons, and PBC goes back to next chapter after start chapter at end of disc instead of displaying change cd. Also, the cdr media I used is crap, and shelf life is probably low

This is what I need to do:

Get the mpeg off the disc, change the PBC so I can use selections (like vcdxbuild does) and display changecd when disc reaches end (vcdxbuild does this too)
And burn it to the quality Taiyo media I have now.I suppose it would be no advantage to reencode and would probably make worse so dont want to do that and dont have the original dvds anymore.

I snooped around and found out how to do this- almost with good results. I checked other websites like vcdhelp and others and finally found a workaround for this, incase anyone wants to use this method or wants to comment on it how to make it better:

Get ISOBuster http://www.isobuster.com

Go into isobuster, it should find your (s)vcd in the dvd-rom or cd-rom drive. Select the MPEGAV folder by double clicking, select the avseq01.mpg file, right click and select "Extract but filter on M2F2 MPEG Frames" Then select wher you want to save the new file.

Get TSCV (www.ttool.org)

Now use TSCV(frontend for vcdimager) and build new svcd compilation. It is real easy to use. Go under add MPEG file, add the new MPEG file you created with Isobuster. No go to chapters tab and create chapter entrypoint where you want. I use Make chapter every 300 seconds. Then Click Do. Now you can create BIN/CUE file. Reburn. I mount the bin/cue to Virtual Daemon first then use cdcopy option under Nero. Works like a charm, and blazing fast with no error.

The problem I had, TSCV wont accept the "changecd.bmp.mpg"( The one that is in folders that DVD2SVCD creates) file as a EXTRO.mpg to play when disc timesout. I had to make a new mpeg for changecd that was longer. It burned ok then, but you cant << >> change chapter back to movie chapters.

So there it is, how I manually recreated the svcd without reencoding and changed the PBC, because I-Author had been screwing up the PBC on my svcd's. I now use vcdx-build option in dvd2svcd and works great.

Hope this helps someone in future who had same problem as me. If someone comes up with a better method, please email me akbrown@altamaha.net because I still have a lot of discs that I want to reburn because of the PBC problem and they are on cheap media.

Hi, just to clarify a few things.
The new changecd you created has sound? I know that vcd won't accept or better will have some problems like a/v desync when reading a mpeg without sound. That's the reason I can't use title or change cd pictures except if it has sound. With svcd players you won't have this problem but you must burn it as svcd maybe that's the reason you couldn't burn with tscv?
