Latest XviD causes external subtitles to not show in OGM

Hmmm, I'm not sure why, but previously, I encoded some Steel Angel Kurumi episodes to OGM. Because the subtitles were multicolored, fancy, and in various places on the screen, I chose not to use srt. Mostly because they didn't come out that great. :( Anyways, they were encoded with nic's build from a while back (around october). Recently, I installed the latest decoder and tried to watch them and the subtitles were indeed missing. They wouldn't show. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling vobsub. Tried latest builds and finally tracked it down to XVID. I uninstalled it and deleted the xvid.ax file from my system32 folder (had to, same problem was occuring) and reinstalled the previous build (thank God, I keep all my old installers) and the subtitles work just fine now. Can someone tell me what happened? The decoder decodes the older version fine and I can play the OGM fine, but the subtitles would not show.

Yep, is a reported-now problem...

To bypass the problem use the great ffdshow :)

I reported this problem about few days later.
I don't know more about this problem, but this problem is similar to first problematic experiences with OGM and DVobSub (months before) = wrong or no time synchronisation between xvid.ax and dvobsub.ax, exactly > DVobSub can't view timing of video.

If you laborate more, you can register a few visible subtitles at fast seeking in AVI or OGM, e.g., no more.

iam using the 09122002 build from Koepi and havent this probs with subs, i think its not a good idea to use the actual Dev Build until the big probs are fixed, so i use 09122002 and get no probs :)

I don't really like ffdshow... It seems to cause more problems than without it.

So you are saying that this is a decoding conflict with xvid.ax, where directvobsub can't read the timecodes? How was this fixed the first time?

Yeah, I'm going to be using the older version of xvid I have. So far, it's been able to decode the fansubbed stuff, so I've no problems using it. I just wanted to try out the latest build to encode with.

I have noticed with the new versions of Xvid both ffdshow and dvobsub are needed to get correct playback while in an ogg. I use ffdshow with the use xvid option for xvid only and dvobsub on forced auto loading all the time (not just when it dectects subtitles) that fixed a problem I had with not seeing the video, but hearing the audio. This was using ffdshow-20021213, and XviD-19122002-1, I also had to reinstall vobsub 2.23 after everything else.

what problems have you had with ffdshow that you didn't with the xvid.ax? I have noticed that, recently, ffdshow has been the only filter that would correctly play xvid encoded video.

I can't remember all the problems, but some of the ones I do remember, is it caused the slur effect in the video stream. It also caused jerky motion worse than what I originally had in the ogms. Could just by my compaq doesn't like the program, but I've never had a problem with using the codecs to decode up until the vobsub thing. I'm fine with divx3 decoding divx3, divx5 decoding divx4 and divx5, and xvid decoding xvid.
