Hi, I want to make a backup of my Pal-DVD 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' (2 DVD edition) on 2 CD's with Ogg-Audio and DivX 5.02 pro.
So I ripped the movie with DVDDecrypter and opened the VOB's with DVD2AVI 1.77.1. First strange thing: after demuxing the English soundtrack (DD5.1 448kbit/s) the file on my HD is called 'sr AC3 T01 3_1ch 32Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3'. I didn't bother because PowerDVD opened it all right with the correct bitrate and number of channels. Same happens when demuxed with DVD2AVI 1.76.
Having muxed video and Ogg-audio with Oggmux (later again with VirtualDubMod) and playing the OGM I noticed that after a certain point in the movie (I think starting with the scene when Arthur approaches the crone asking about a shrubbery, scene before that everything's fine) video is lagging behind the audio by a slight margin, hardly noticeable, but definitely there. Playing the VOB everything's fine. Then I muxed AVI and AC3 with Avimuxgui and the audio skew occurs again. Then I opened Vdub twice with the Avisynth-script and with the AVI comparing frame by frame. Everywhere I looked frames where identical. I ripped the movie again with Smartripper and DVD2AVI gave the same strange filename. I tried to repair the AC3 with Besliced/Bestrip, the logfile of which didn't show any errors. I muxed the 'fixed' AC3 again with the AVI and still a sync-problem, same thing when making an OGG from the fixed AC3. It isn't a MHz-issue either (1.2 GHz). I used B-frames in the AVI, but have been doing so for about 40 movies and never had any sync-issues. I am really at my wit's end and hope that anyone has any idea.
Have searched the forum with keywords 'grail' (found no relevant posts) and 'audio sync' (read the first 20 or so then decided to give the remaining hundreds a miss).
Thanx in advance.
