Has anybody seen this FAQ:

http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/121195.php

It details a method for backing up a DVD to DVD-R using DVD2SVCD.

Does anybody know if this method works using the Tsunami encoder? (I splurged ($50) for the Tsunami Encoder, and have been making great SVCD and VCD backups on CD-R using DVD2SVCD, but I just got the Pioneer A05 4X DVD-R, and I'm trying to fugure out the best method to backup a DVD9 (dual layer) on one DVD-R.)

The FAQ on VCDhelp assumes the Cinema Craft Encoder SP ver 2.50, but from what I can tell they want a fortune for it! (I finally found DVD Maestro on EASYNEWS.COM, maybe somebody posted the CC Encoder there too?)

I did find an option (Colsed GOP) in the Tsumani advanced setings, but no setting for "DVD compatibility."

Any other thoughts/suggestions are much appreciated.

The Tsunami encoder worked, but it took over 20 hours to do the 2-pass VBR encoding (AMD XP 2000+, movie was Mulholland Drive, 2.5 hours)

I checked the (Closed GOP) in Tsunami advanced, and the other CCE settings that mapped 1-to-1 to Tsunami according to the FAQ on VCDHelp.

I wonder if I should just use CBR? I've been encoding SVCD in like 6 hours using CBR, of course the resolution is a bit smaller...

Aside from that, is it possible to only use the DTS sound? DVD Maestro complained that you need to have one ac3, in which case, the DTS and ac3 woulkd take too much space away from the movie, but I like DTS better.

Hi Raucous

I always use CBR with the settings as in the previous thread. no problem with quality at all.

I encode a 2hr movie in around 1.5hrs using cce 2.5 on a p3 2.53
(stopping d2s after cce has finished)

note: if using D2s you cannot use the DTS Audio, only 5.1 (at the moment)

I then use spruce to add chapters etc & Prassi to burn (prassi burns tend to be compatible with more DVD players)
EDIT: (you don't need IFO edit when using Spruce).

full movie rip in around 2.1/2hrs incl the burning (2X)

Hope this helps.

Happy 2003 to DVD2SVCD & everyone reading this.
