Ukranian pirate DVDs

I saw before couple days in local Videotheque new DVDs. Cover was obvious photocopy, and my curiosity rented 2 pieces. Reign of Fire and High Crimes, both on DVD-R. Length of data is under 4 GB, obviously recompressed from R1 DVDs. Framerate conversion is made very 'competent', by frame duplicating, so we have every second nice jerk. There is also subtitle in local language, translation quality is in range of video - completely ridiculous. And they sell it for 10-12 € :-)

I really like the straight from video ones with FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY popping up every five minutes or so. A lot of stores in my neck off the woods try to pass them off as original. Sometimes the original language is missing and there is only Russian. Fun.

There is also subtitle in local language, translation quality is in range of video - completely ridiculousA friend of mine purchased a Chinese DVD in Malaysia (it wasn't even that much of a pirate copy because it's "Schindler's List", which isn't available on DVD yet). The transfer from LD to DVD had been done quite well (29.97fps, ivtc-able), but the English subtitles showed that the Chinese makers had a major problem in understanding the English language. The difference from what was said to what the subtitle said was so hilarious and absolutely misleading - my friend and I watched the whole movie again just for reading the subtitles. They should've labelled it "Engrish" instead of "English", because that's what it was - I have never again laughed that much while watching a movie (and Schindler's list isn't really a hilarious movie by its content...)

Yeah, I have that DVD too. Makes you wonder what they're saying in the chinese dubbed versions :D
