Which is the correct resolution size in Vdub for making the "overlay" keep goin'on? I've tried with 480x352 but the capture still doesn't start. Is it 352x288 the only format working?

overlay or not, this has nothing to do with the result = the result will be the same.
You better switch to preview anyway.

So you think this is the best way to control the movie? I'm asking this 'cause I'd like to see the movie while I'm recording it.

AFAIK, there is no way to get overlay for resolutions higher than 384x288. So you've got to live with Preview for higher resolutions.

that's ok. Thank you very much for your help!;)

Dont know exactly, if we are talking about the same thing, but you have to turn on overlay with Philipps Chips (and all other cards when using WDM drivers) and preview or better nothing with BT8x8 Chips (when using vfw drivers)
And there should be no problem with overlay and Full PAl, I never heard of that. :)

bt8x8 chips are usually limited to half res during capturing with running overlay. usually i say because after i switched to xp overlay works also for full res during capturing for me. (vfw drivers)

this means you have wrapper as a go-between (vfw can't work on
wdm systems without wrapper.......)
and wdm uses "smart-tee" preview and is more CPU efficient so on
newer cpu you can get realtime full res preview on wdm system (while capturing)....
keito,if you're on vfw system (win98/me) then you can use overlay to adjust
the image parameters, and then switch to preview for capturing...
(explanation on such bt8x8 behaviour is on vdub.org capture doc)
if you're on wdm system (2k,xp) go for btwincap drivers (if that's your capture device) and then you can benefit from the smart-tee,etc.
also ............"Ghost in the shell" SUX!

no, im using (had used) "real" vfw drivers for nt40 (yes, they really exists), no wdm drivers. they worked perfect in xp.
dont know if they are still availabe at the hauppauge homepage, maybe worth a try for hauppauge+vdub(vfw) users.

For ^^-+I4004+-^^: Thanks! Im using win2k, I've already tried btwincap but they didn't work with Vdub(it doesn't recognize the capture device). What should I do then?
Btw.....Ghost in the shell Rules!!!

in your hardware list sign there's mention of asus atv something
are you sure you're using bt8x8 device?
what is the exact capturing device you use?
if it's asus then i can't be of help as i don't have it
if it's bt then btwincap should work....

then it probably has some internal vfw->wdm translator
(hehe i'm not giving up....)
as you know, vfw can't really work with wdm system
(for example if you try capturing with btwincap under w2k and VDub,you know it won't work,as VD understands only vfw....)
but you have mentioned nt40 and that's older stuff so perhaps
there's some possibility (backwards compatibility etc.) that
indeed vintage nt40 vfw drivers work under xp without any
wrappers etc.
(as i don't know how old the wdm model really is etc.)
interesting stuff..........

I'm using a Pinnacle pctv-rave. And btw thers's also another little pb: While I'm capturing suddenly Vd stops. I've 23gb free on my hd:mad: What could be the reason?
Koepi

hitting a key or clicking a mouse button while capturing stops the capture. That's intended... ;)

Hi Koepi! The pb is that Idon't touch any key!!! The prg just stop recording at the same point of the tape. I've tried many times and it stoppes everytime. What maybe the reason?

@^^-+I4004+-^^:
its just a vfw driver for the nt architecture. it was developed before wdm, when only 9x and nt was available. the only way to get this cards to work under nt was a vfw driver. but most manufacturers havnt build such a driver, because nt was only for "professional use", no need for tv-cars or multimedia in such a pc.
and today its much easier to have only 1 (wdm) driver for all systems instead of building different ones (wich is needed for vfw) for 9x and xp/2000/nt. and vfw is somewhat outdated, too.
i just looked at there homepage, its still available.

may it be the 71 minute problem of some pinnacle cards ???
sometimes it is solved with 2k/xp, sometimes not (there were some topics about that in the past)

and (in addition to 71' bug)if you're on FAT32 partition then you should check segmentation and configure spill drive
(FAT32 file can't be bigger than 4Gb...)
after what period it stops?
if 71 then you know,
if after some other time check filesize if you're on FAt32 (NTFS not affected...)
also (but this is random and doesn't go for your case)sometimes VD dies on me (locks the system)
yesterday i was capturing "Eyes wide shut" and after cca. 2h it locked for no
reason..sure not much was lost as VD segmentates and even if it doesn't (make segments) i usually could recover the file i was capturing (&system locked during that.... -->"popup extended open options" etc.)..(but i guess win98 is reason enough!LOL!)
(it was VDVCR1492)
but these are rare occasions.....
what's the error message it gives?
(VD "speaks" if file should override 4gb for FAT32 or there's no more space, etc.)

It stopped at 35 min and 47 seconds exactly for 4 times. I really don't know how to solve it. I'm under NTSF w2k.

wasnt there also a 35min (half 71min) limit ? i think i read somewhat about that in the virtualdub documentation.
does your capturing stops ALWAYS at 35min, no matter what you capture ?
or does this only happen now ?
keito
28th December 2002, 21:18
It's happened only today. Normally i was able to capture as long as the free space in the hd.

maybe then the tape you captured from is corrupt at this place. have you tried capturing only the region where vdub stops ? if it still stops at this place there must be something wrong with the tape. but i cant imagine why vdub would stop in such case  . i have seen many strange effects with old vhs tapes, but never that it simply stops.
