What is the best way to encode a monosource in your opinions? Big fat mono or real mono. Real mono is were you get all sound from the center speaker and big fat mono is were you encode the mono in 2.0 and then decode it using a dolby pro logic system to get sound from the center-channel.

It's personal choice. I like to save the audio bitrate, and use 1/0. Others like the wider sound of mono 2/0.

AFAIK, even if you encode in 1.0, you can setup your system to put it out from the 2 front speakers.
So 1.0 is the way to go.

Not on most systems, you can't. However, most can go the other way, convererting 2/0 mono to 1/0, by turning on the Pro Logic mode.

I'm pretty sure, every DVD Player or receiver can put out a 1.0 track on the 2 front speakers, because most people have only a stereo system without a center speaker ;)

Yes, if you use the analog out of the DVD player, then you do end up with 2/0 mono. But nope, not in the case of the digital outs. In this case, the only way to get 2/0 mono, is being lucky enough to have some DSP mode on the receiver, that will do it.
