duplicate frames at *Specific* points

Hi. Im trying to encode a movie or two.

Im using Flaskmpeg 0.594 and divx 5.02(gainware bundle)
i have the divx settings at everything default ... i set it to 1-pass ... at 1600 bitrate.

SPECIFICALLY at SCENE CHANGES im getting a duplicate frame ... if a scene lasts a long time then nothing happens .. but the isntant the camera changes to another view or moves to another angle/shot i get two of the same frame encoded... its 100% reliable in the fact that if the camera pans and its the same shot... its 100% smooth... but as soon as it switches to another camera there is a duplicate frame. This is extremely annoying ... its as though you watching lots of minimovies lol kinda makes it seem like each one is a seperate part but its not. I opened it in virtualdub so i could view each frame .. and yes indeed there are two completely seperately encoded frames that have duplicate contents ... but once again .. ONLY when theres a camera/scene change.

How do i get rid of this? this is total bull it makes a movie look like crap. Especially a war movie.

Hi,
If they both keyframes (as is inferred by seperately encoded frames) you could painfully delete every duplicate.
Is your audio out of sync? Cause if it is, the above might solve that, but if not, the above will probably make it go out of sync and getting it syncronous is also painful.

I have heard of this problem before with Flask. Try reading some of the guides and threads then maybe change your encoding to something more powerful like Gknot. It isn't as easy to learn, but the results are significantly better and there are fewer problems with the software involved;) . You will never look back:D .

Is your source a film transfer to NTSC? I've never used flask, but you might get this with an Inverse Telecine of a source that isn't 100% Telecined.

my movie is a NTSC movie. Its episode ONE on dvd.

Im gonna try a few things in Gknot per your suggestion

either way ide rather just bust it out in FlaskMPEG... isnt there divx settings that fix this problem?

If you are using Decomb's Telecide() and Decimate() to IVC, you can force decimation of the duplicate frames using the manual override capability.
