high-pass, low-pass filters : Nandub

hey all,

what do the high-pass and low-pass filters do in nandub. i'm kind of confused by what i read about them. is it better to have a lower high-pass and a higher low-pass? or have a higher high-pass with a lower low-pass? what do each, low and high do exactly...thanks
